MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday reiterated the government’s call for Filipinos to steer clear of the massive protests in Hong Kong.

“Kung maaaring umiwas sila sa paglahok sa mga aksyon na yan at magfocus na lang sa kanilang gawain (If it is possible for them to stay away from the protest actions there and focus instead on their work),” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a Palace briefing.

Thousands of Hong Kong residents conduct rallies in the city calling for genuine democracy.
