MANILA (Mabuhay) – Malacañang on Saturday urged Filipinos to show their support for Vigan City in Ilocos Sur as one of the world’s new seven wonder cities.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said she hoped Filipinos would show the same support for Vigan as they did for Puerto Princesa’s Underground River.

“I hope we show the same support for Vigan in the same way all Filipinos in social media supported the campaign of the Underground River,” she said on government-run dzRB radio.

In 2012, New7Wonders announced the PPUR made it to the list of the new seven wonders of nature, after many Filipinos showed their support for it via texting.

Earlier this week, state-run Philippine Information Agency urged Filipinos to boost Vigan’s chances of making it to the next round of the worldwide city search.

PIA posted on its Twitter account two ways to support Vigan’s bid for the distinction.

The first way is to log on to http://n7w.com/en/cities and vote, while the second is to text VIGAN and send to 29290777.

Earlier this week, Vigan advanced to the next round of an international search for the world’s new seven wonder cities.

New7Wonders Cities said Vigan is among the 21 finalists voted through to the next round of the campaign.

Aside from Vigan, the 20 other official finalists include:

Bangkok, Barcelona, Beirut, Chicago, Doha, Durban, Havana, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, London, Mendoza, Mexico City, Mumbai, Perth, Quito, Reykjavik, Saint Petersburg, Seoul, and Shenzhen.

Filipinos and tourists who have experienced the beauty of Vigan may want to vote for it in the penultimate voting stage that will run until Oct. 7.

After Oct. 7, the list will be further narrowed to 14, and the 7 Official New7Wonders Cities will be revealed on December 7. (MNS)
