The wife of Filipino boxing icon Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. is a now certified hero, too, having saved a drowning child despite being nine months pregnant last July 4.

Donaire, in a post on his Twitter account, said his wife Rachel was admitted to a hospital for fetal monitoring after saving the child.

“Wifey admitted into ER for fetal monitoring.  Shes full term but not due for another 17 days.  Praying things are ok,” he said in a post with times tamp 4:24 a.m.

The administrator of Donaire’s Twitter account said Mrs. Donaire was admitted in a hospital for fetal monitoring after saving a drowning child.

“During 4th of July, a friend’s son disappeared underneath the water. Rachel didn’t hesitate to jump in to save the child but injured herself in the process. Nonito said she ‘moved so quickly it scared me,'” the administrator of Donaire’s account tweeted.

Rachel woke up with sharp pain and was admitted in the hospital where she was monitored for over an hour and was diagnosed with a strained ligament.

But doctors said the baby in her womb is unaffected, and ordered bed rest for her “for a couple days.”

Mrs. Donaire is on her ninth month this July with their first child – they are expecting a boy, Donaire’s Twitter account administrator added.

The feat earned Mrs. Donaire praises from tweeps.

“The wife of Nonito The @filipinoflash Donaire saves a drowning boy while 9 months pregnant! Mabuhay! #Respeto #Bayani,” tweeted IamSuperPupung.

Another commended Mrs. Donaire “for her heroic act” and called her a “future super mom!— LBG, GMA News

Think tank finds May 13 polls ‘questionable’

Prof. Bobby Tuazon, Director for Policy Studies at think tank Center for People Empowerment in Governance (CenPEG) on Wednesday said the May 13 midterm polls were unreliable, citing several aspects of non-compliance with election laws. “Kwestyunable [dahil] ung proseso na dinaanan ng midterm elections—ranging from patuloy na non-compliance sa mahigpit na election provisions—digital signature, verifiability feature [hanggang] itong nangyaring premature proclamation,” Tuazon said in an interview aired over GMA News TV’s “News to Go”. Tuazon added that the observation was not just CenPEG’s alone, as other election watchdogs also saw the poll results as unreliable. “Kabilang na diyan ang AES (Automated Election System) watch at ilan pang kapatid dito sa election monitoring, ay nagkakaisa sila na kwestyunable ang naging conduct at naging resulta ng midterm election,” he said. Tuason pointed out that to date, around 10 million votes have yet to be counted and these “missing” votes gave the elections a sense of confusion. “‘Yung the fact na halos 13 thousand ER’s (election returns) ay hindi pa talagang nata-transmit, equivalent iyon to 8 million to 10 million votes that remained to be unaccounted for; pinaka latest ang discrepancies na nakita roon sa kalahati ng mga RMA (Random Manual Audit) areas,” he said. “Lahat ng ito, tingin namin, nagdudulot ng pangamba at agam agam sa question na was the vote really counted? Sino ba talaga actual na nanalo at natalo lalo na sa senatorial race?” he added. Accuracy rating Tuazon also brought up the much debated accuracy rating of the PCOS Read More …

PPCRV: Lipa archdiocese's 'exit' won't affect poll preparations

The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting downplayed on Wednesday the Lipa (Batangas) archdiocese’s move to cut off ties with it, saying such development will not affect its preparations for the May 13 elections. In a radio interview, PPCRV chairperson Henrietta de Villa said it is “business as usual” as far as voter education and vote guarding are concerned. “Hindi ko tinatrataong balakid yan, kailangan magtrabaho mas masugid (I do not treat what happened as a stumbling block. We just need to work harder),” De Villa said in an interview on dzBB radio. “Business as usual,” she added. On Tuesday, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines said the Lipa Archdiocese cut ties with the PPCRV, but said it will still work for clean polls. The CBCP noted this development came two weeks after the CBCP National Secretariat for Social Action (Nassa) cut ties with PPCRV and said it will work with Namfrel. De Villa said one of the supposed reasons for the Lipa archdiocese’s move was that the fourth copy of the election returns for the PPCRV will be sealed. She said she explained that volunteer poll watchers will be able to see the contents of the ER. “At sine-seal para ang courier pagdala sa amin baka ma-tamper… para makasiguradong hindi napalitan yan,” De Villa said. Business interests? But De Villa admitted she was hurt over reported innuendos linking some members of the PPCRV to alleged business interests in the counting machines to be used in the May 13 polls.
