MANILA, Oct 14 (Mabuhay) –President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to declare a revolutionary government in case destabilization moves by his critics, particularly the Left, continue and start slipping into chaos.

“‘Pag ang destablization ninyo patagilid na at medyo magulo na, I will not hesitate to declare a revolutionary government until the end of my term,” he said in a report on state-run PTV  News on Friday.

“I will arrest all of you and we can go to a full-scale war against the Reds,” Duterte added.

He said he will declare the revolutionary government if he thinks his critics are “about to take over the nation” and install a new government.

Duterte said he would not declare martial law because he would need to report to Congress for it.

He also said that declaring a revolutionary government would be akin to what late President Corazon Aquino did during her term.

“Just like your hero, heroine, President Corazon Aquino declared a martial law. Then… about to then changed her mind a few hours and declared a revolutionary government,” he said.

Duterte’s statement was part of a taped interview with broadcaster Erwin Tulfo that aired on Friday night.

While Duterte urged both the communists and Liberal Party to band against him, he singled out the Left in his recent rants.

“And pagka dumating ‘yang panahon ng revolutionary government, lahat kayo, lahat kayo, especially the left. As of now, itong mga legal fronts nila are part of the conspiracy. They are as equally guilty as the one fighting in the mountains. Kasi sila-sila ‘yan eh,” he said.

Duterte even a few days before he was elected in May 2016 said he would want to set up a revolutionary government if he wins.

In August, the President floated the idea once again saying it would bring change to the country but it would not be during his term. (MNS)

Customs exec Danilo Lim quits post a day after SONA

(Updated 9 p.m.) Saying he agrees with President Benigno Aquino III’s observation on the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Danilo Lim, the bureau’s deputy commissioner for intelligence, tendered his resignation Tuesday. “I agree with the President’s SONA observation that the Bureau has not performed in accordance with the expectations of the people,” Lim said in a statement. “In view of this, I see no other recourse but to leave this office.” The BOC was one of the three government agencies Aquino scolded during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday. The others were the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).  Immediately after Aquino’s SONA, Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon offered his resignation, but it was rejected by the President. According to Lim, as a member of the Cabinet, he is “privy to the truths that ring out in (Aquino’s) speech and am profoundly moved.” “It is in this spirit that I tendered my resignation as Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence of the Bureau of Customs,” said the retired military general who was involved in several coup attempts in the past, including one against Aquino’s mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, in 1989. Lim said this was not the first time he asked to be removed from his post in the BOC, which he held for 22 months. “During my tenure, (Executive) Secretary Pacquito Ochoa will attest that I had asked to be relieved of my duties no less than six times, and in all those times Read More …

PNoy one of Time's '100 Most Influential People'

(Updated 12:17 a.m., 19 April 2013) Time magazine has included Philippine President Benigno Aquino III in its list of the “100 Most Influential People in the World”. Aquino and 22 other personalities including Pope Francis and U.S. President Barack Obama were among 23 “leaders” in the list. Others in the list were divided into categories such as artists, icons, titans, and pioneers. “In a country of nicknames, Filipinos proudly call their President PNoy — a pun on the word they use for themselves: Pinoy. For his courage, however, he really should have the pet name the family gave his eldest sister Maria Elena: Ballsy,” Time news director Howard Chua-Eoan wrote in describing Aquino. Chua-Eoan said Aquino inherited the legacy of his late father former Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. and received a boost from sympathy over the death of his mother former President Corazon Aquino. But he said Aquino “quickly began making his own name” and pushed through the Reproductive Health law. The Time article even credited Aquino for “[becoming] the face of the regional confrontation with Beijing over its claim to virtually all of the South China Sea.” “It is a brave stance, the long-term consequences still unknown,” said Time. Meanwhile, Aquino, upon being told of the Time article, credited the country for his inclusion in the list: “Ito po ay dahil sa inyong lahat.” The Presidential Communications Operations Office called attention to the Time story Thursday night. Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda added this was the first time Aquino appeared Read More …

If tasked, DOJ ready to look into Imee Marcos' offshore trust — De Lima

If ever she would be put to task, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Thursday said she would look into a report that Ma. Imelda “Imee” Marcos is beneficiary of a secret offshore trust in the Carribean. “If it gets refered to us, it’s our duty to preliminary look into that. Kapag me positive finding, that’s the time to make a formal probe,” De Lima told reporters. However, she refused to further comment on the issue, saying: “Huwag niyo muna ako tanungin. Di ko pa nakita document. How can I comment? So lets see,” she said. Under Executive Order 643 issued in July 2007 by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the Presidential Committee on Good Government was transferred under the DOJ from the Office of the President. The almost 27-year-old PCGG was created through Executive Order No. 1, the first edict that the late President Corazon Aquino signed shortly after the Marcos regime was toppled in 1986. According to a report of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, Imee Marcos is one of the beneficiaries of the Sintra Trust, which financial records uncovered by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists show was formed in June 2002 in the British Virgin Islands. The PCIJ report said that apart from Marcos, other beneficiaries are her adult sons with estranged husband Tomas Manotoc: Ferdinand Richard Michael Marcos Manotoc, Matthew Joseph Marcos Manotoc, and Fernando Martin Marcos Manotoc. The PCIJ said that having offshore trust was “a primary way her father allegedly stashed away hidden wealth Read More …
