While Binay’s latest rating remained in “good” territory at +31 (satisfied percentage minus dissatisfied percentage), it had dropped 13 points from December’s +44. This was also the fourth straight quarter in which Binay’s ratings took a dip since the +73 in March 2014.
Respondents satisfied with his Binay fell to 58 percent in the first quarter from the 65 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014. Those dissatisfied went up to 28 percent from 20 percent.
Binay faces charges of corruption, including a complaint that alleged the Makati City Hall Building II was overpriced.
The vice president has denied the charges, countering that these were politically motivated.
Other officials
Senate President Franklin Drilon’s ratings improved, as his net satisfaction rating rose to a “good” +35 in the first quarter, from a “moderate” +28 in December.
Those satisfied with Drilon’s performance increased to 57 from 53 percent, while those dissatisfied fell to 22 from 25 percent.
Drilon had a “good” net satisfaction rating in three quarters since September 2013, and “moderate” in four.
House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., meanwhile, saw his net satisfaction rating stay at “moderate” +12. Some 38 percent were satisfied with Belmonte, compared to 36 percent in 2014’s fourth quarter.
Those dissatisfied increased slightly to 26 percent from 25 percent. Since September 2010, Belmonte’s net satisfaction rating was “moderate” in 12 quarters, and “neutral” in seven.
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno’s rating remained in “moderate” territory, dipping to +10 in 2015′ first quarter from +11 in December.
Those satisfied with her increased to 38 from 36 percent while those dissatisfied increased to 28 from 26 percent.
Key institutions
The Supreme Court’s rating improved eight points to a “good” +34 from a “moderate” +26. In 11 polls taken since August 2012, it had been “good” in 10 quarters and “moderate” once.
The Cabinet saw its rating improve to a “moderate” +13 from “neutral” +9. Of 19 surveys since September 2010, it had scored “good” in a single quarter, “moderate” 16 times, and “neutral” twice.
The Senate’s rating improved five points to a “good” +31 from a “moderate” +26. Since September 2010, it got a “very good” six times, “good” nine times and “moderate” four times.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives’ score remained in “moderate” territory at +20. Since September 2010, it had a “good” score in ten quarters and “moderate” in nine.
The SWS poll was taken from March 20 to 23 using face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults nationwide, with sampling error margins of ±3 points for national percentages, and ±6 points each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings of +70 or up as “excellent”; +50 to +69 as “very good”; +30 to +49 “good”; +10 to +29 “moderate”; +9 to -9 “neutral”; -10 to -29 “poor”; -30 to -49 “bad”; -50 to -69 “very bad”; and -70 and below as “execrable.”
