Filipino Artists
Time and again, the Philippines have dominated the world stage as numerous Filipinos rake in top awards in various talent searches across the globe. Currently the reputation is such that if you are Filipino , people from different nations and the international community expect you to have an incredible talent. More often than not, their expectations are correct.
Many searches have come and gone but the World Championships of the Performing Arts, known to be the world’s only Talent Olympics have been around for 19 years. A search where no less than 52 countries gather together in the entertainment capital of the world , Hollywood, California USA. Nations bring the best talents from their country to compete in various categories namely: Singing, dancing, acting, modeling, variety act. This is where Filipinos have constantly preserved that good reputation that we have earned worldwide and Team Philippines have remained to be the fiercest contender of every nation by being 1st in the rankings every year.
Eversince the Philippines joined in 2005 with Jed Madela raking in all the gold medals and winning the top plum all across different categories, Filipino artists continued to shine year after year after year gaining the respect and adulation of artists from different countries. Celebrity mentors and hitmakers of big named artists in Hollywood, Nashville, New York such as Seth Riggs, Steven Dorff, Shele Sondheim to name just a few, have turned to Team Philippines to find new artists to groom. Team Philippines started joining the modeling category and since then our Filipino models have been getting callbacks from modeling agents Crista Clayman and Darrien Arnolds of LA models (Tyra Banks).
Starting in 2013, under the leadership Mr. Gerry Mercado, currently the National Director for the Philippines. Team Philippines have been sending large numbers of talented Filipinos and since then won the Senior and Junior Grand Champion Performers of the World for two years straight. “At this point, we have succeeded in uplifting the Filipino brand, it is now a matter of preserving that good name we have earned in the global stage.”
This year, Team Philippines 2015, dubbed as “the team to beat in WCOPA”, is bringing in 40 acts which includes, not only singers but dancers, models and a candidate for variety act. “We are in our best winning form like always and we are pretty excited to showcase our new Pinoy artists. We did not limit our search to only Luzon and Davao this year, We now have delegates coming from GenSan and Cebu” says Mercado.
WCOPA Philippines makes sure that whatever reputation we have earned, we will keep. More so now with the support of the government through the Department of Tourism, Philippine Airlines and NCCA and companies such as Folded and Hung, Cravings and Secosana, Kudos to Team Philippines for bring continuously bringing honor to the country. They are scheduled to leave for California on July 8.
