Isuzu mu-X

MANILA, Philippines –  After months of anticipation, Isuzu Philippines Corporation finally revealed its new flagship SUV: the mu-X. Replacing the Alterra, the mu-X comes in three variants all packed with new technological and design features combined with Isuzu’s penchant for delivering efficient performance.

Chevrolet Captiva

Chevrolet Philippines launches an assault in the compact crossover market by revamping and re-introducing the Captiva for 2014. Headlined by revisions to its drivetrain as well as new features, Chevrolet bids to enlarge its share in this growing segment. Powered by a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine, the Captiva generates a healthy 161 horsepower and a whopping 400 Nm of torque. More than just delivering thrust, the engine is now mated to a new second-generation 6-speed automatic with Driver Shift Control and ECO drive mode for better fuel economy.

BMW X4

Taking center stage at BMW’s display at PIMS is the company’s first-ever mid-sized sport activity coupe: the X4. Drawing from the concept of the larger X6, the X4 combines the functionality of a sport activity vehicle with the sporting elegance of a classic coupe. The X4 is available in two diesel variants. The base trim, X4 xDrive 20d features a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the X4 xDrive 30d 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine pushes out 258 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque.

Volkswagen Philippines Turns Over Beetle to Raffle Winner

Automobile Central Enterprise Inc. (ACEI), the official importer and distributor of Volkswagen cars in the Philippines, formally turned over the new 21st Century Beetle to eight-year-old Cherub Nikolai Bedaño. Cherub was the lucky winner drawn out of thousands of raffle entries during the People’s Car Celebration in Greenbelt Park. The raffle culminated the re-launch of the Volkswagen brand and highlighted the European automaker’s much-awaited return in Manila.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling model globally, the C-Class, receives its most dynamic and radical change yet as it aims to become the benchmark in the premium mid-sized sedan category. Indeed, the German automaker is promising that the all-new C-Class (W205) is now “one class higher” in performance, agility, safety, and comfort. In a jam-packed launch, Mercedes-Benz Philippines through its exclusive distributor, Auto Nation Group Inc., launched the C 200 AMG. This will soon be joined by other engine variants and design lines in the near future including the Avantgarde and Exclusive line.

Philippine International Motor Show 2014

Despite a setback from tropical storm Mario, the 5th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) held at the World Trade Center was its most successful yet, nearly doubling its foot traffic from the previous PIMS in 2012. The four-day motoring exhibit closed early on Friday because of heavy rainfall and flooding across the metro. However, the 5th PIMS bounced back during the weekend, closing with over 90,000 visitors that spread across only three and a half days. This year’s motor show is also the largest in terms of the number of exhibitors with a total of 17 participating car manufacturers and distributors, namely: BAIC, BMW, Daewoo, Honda, Isuzu, JEEP, JMC, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

Nissan X-Trail

Nissan Philippines aims to increase excitement in its local line-up as the unified company launches the all-new X-Trail at the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). Perhaps the model with the strongest consumer recall locally, the third-generation X-Trail is Nissan’s global compact crossover offering that is slated to be sold in over 190 countries worldwide. The Philippines is one of the first countries in the ASEAN market to receive the X-Trail which is built at Nissan’s Kyushu, Japan plant.

Honda Jazz Tanay drive

Located a mere 15 kilometers or so east of the Ortigas Central Business District is the start of the infamous “Tanayburgring”—a clockwise loop of twisty, mountainous road stretching from Tanay, Rizal looping down to Quezon, Laguna, and Cavite before ending back up in Makati City. It’s a long, arduous route with no fancy pants coffee shop stopovers (at least for the first part) and one that really separates the men from the boys. Honda took the all-new Jazz through its initial paces there proving itself as a  stylish, fun, practical, and ultra-efficient sub-compact hatchback, the all-new one raises the class bar for dynamic performance in ways that truly translate to real driving enjoyment.

Honda City Fuel Economy Challenge

Setting off from the newest financial district in the Metro, Bonifacio Global City, a fleet of 5 Honda Citys braved the mid-morning rush hour to NLEX in a fuel economy challenge. In Honda’s internal tests, the City manages 17.8 km/L in the city and 22.7 km/L on the highway, enough fora  combined figure of 20.25 km/L. In this particular set of competitive folk, the best city figure was 17.1 km/L while 25.3 km/L for the highway set by two different teams. The eventual winner did 20.75 km/L combined, though the theoretical best would have been 21.2 km/L if the best figure of the two teams were combined.

Mazda3 Speed and Bose-Equipped Mazda6

Known for its “zoom-zoom” driving fun, Mazda Philippines adds yet another reason for buyers to consider getting a Mazda: Bose sound system. At The Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), Berjaya Auto Philippines announced that more local Mazda units will feature the Bose sound system as standard equipment. During the same event, the company also unveiled its new range-topping variant for the Mazda3: the Mazda3 Speed. The Bose sound system (in varying number of speakers) is now standard equipment for the Mazda6 executive sedan and MX-5 roadster as well as selected models of the Mazda3 and CX-9.

Volkswagen GTI

Volkswagen showed off its sporty side by unveiling two new additions to its line-up. The first is the Jetta Sport Edition, a new variant of Volkswagen’s globally best-selling compact sedan that now offers a more stylish exterior. The second is the Philippine sneak peek of the much-anticipated all-new Golf GTI Mark 7, a car that Volkswagen Philippines will launch in 2015. The long-waited, much-anticipated five-door hatchback Golf GTI features a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 220 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Though front-wheel drive, the Golf GTI has a sport tuned suspension with front Double Wishbones and a 4-Link independent rear suspension with stabilizer. Like the Jetta Sport Edition, the Golf GTI runs on 18-inch rims with 225/40R18 tires and convenience features such as a push button start/stop system.
