Cops get more cash incentives – PNP

Police Deputy Director General Ager P Ontog Jr, Deputy Chief PNP for Operation/ Commander National Task Force SAFE 2013 gives out guidance regarding the deployment of PNP personnel in the field especially in areas vulnerable to attacks of lawless elements in response to the call for Secure and Fair Election (SAFE 2013). MANILA (Mabuhay) – The Philippine National Police has completed the release of some Php 750-million representing the Performance Enhancement Incentive (PEI) of its 150,000 personnel. In his report to PNP Officer-in-Charge, Police Deputy Director General Leonardo A Espina, Police Director Rolando Puruganan, PNP Director for Comptrollership, said the individual PEI of P5,000.00 was credited to the individual ATM accounts of PNP personnel and was incorporated in the salary and allowances for the period December 15-30, 2014 received before Christmas. Puruganan also told Espina that the Performance Based Bonus (PBB) of PNP personnel will be released on January 6, 2015 thru the individual ATM payroll accounts. Some personnel who are not yet enrolled in the ATM payroll system will receive their PBB in the form of Continuous Form Checks (CFC) drawn from the PNP account with the Land Bank of the Philippines. The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) earlier released funds totaling Php 1.3-billion to pay for the 2013 PBB of the PNP. MANILA (Mabuhay) – The temperature in the country’s summer capital dropped to 11.8 degrees Celsius. The temperature was recorded at dawn Tuesday. The chilly weather is due to the presence of the northeast monsoon or amihan, which is currently affecting Northern Luzon. Weather bureau PAGASA said Baguio will experience a colder temperature in the coming days especially in January. As early as October, tourists started to flock to Baguio to experience the cold weather. Last December 18, the temperature in Baguio City dropped to 12 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature so far recorded in Baguio City was 6.3 degrees Celsius on January 18, 1961. (MNS)

CAAP: No-fly zone in effect Jan. 15, 17, 19 for papal visit

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said it issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for the visit from Jan. 15 to 19. In an advisory, it said the no-fly zone will be in effect: Jan. 15: NAIA – The Ninoy Aquino International Airport primary runway 06/24 and secondary runway 13/31 will be closed for all arriving flights. Departing flights will be allowed to operate from 2 to 5:15 p.m. From 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., a no fly zone will be implemented and no air traffic will be accommodated due to the arrival of Pope Francis’ aircraft at about 5:45 p.m. Jan. 17: NAIA, Tacloban Airport – When Pope Francis flies to Tacloban, the Daniel Z. Romualdez (Tacloban) Airport will be closed to all air traffic from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Exempted will be aircraft that carries the papal entourage. A day of holiday merrymaking at Colina Salon & “Aguilang Bato Gardens”

As we celebrate the beginning of winter solstice (time of the year when the sun is farthest south) last Sunday, Marlou Colina gathered his loyal clients, family, friends and staff to a sumptuous Christmas dinner and merrymaking in the atrium-turned garden setting situated on the first floor of his salon’s building in Long Beach. Gregarious Bona was the host of the evening, who welcomed all of us for taking our time from our busy holiday schedules to join in the celebration. Pastor Herbert Mirfaflor delivered his powerful message of goodwill and peace to our fellowmen. Marlou gave a special award to his topnotched staff, Leilani “Ate Lani” Hollman who pursued a two-year career in Cosmetology and who has recently passed the US Board Licensing exam with flying colors. Audience participation was encouraged when Bona sang the Christmas song “ Chestnuts Roasting Like An Open Fire,” followed by Marlou’s dad who showed us his singing prowess. A “Most Loyal” award was given to Erica who has worked with Marlou for the past five years. Shown at the “Aguilang Bato Gardens” Christmas lunch reception were: Charlie Hilario, a friend, yours truly, Danny Bajet and Adolfo Maynes. Part of the merrymaking included games such as: produce a “Target” receipt, an American Express card,  a $100 bill, a 100 peso bill and a wedding ring  Additional games include the hilarious “dance contest” of four guys to a variety of  songs by: Ricky Martin, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Isabelle on settling down: I’m still young

Isabelle Daza (MNS photo) Actress-host Isabelle Daza won’t join the bandwagon of celebrities getting engaged or planning to settle down this year. Daza, who’s been in a relationship her non-showbiz boyfriend Adrien Semblat for years, said that she’s still too young to settle down. “I’m still young. I know ang dami ng, parang uso ngayon ay magpakasal, hindi ba? Pero no, I think I’m just focus more on my career. Siyempre bata pa ako I want to do that first and I want to accomplish things in my career muna,” Daza said. Daza made a big career move when she signed a contract with ABS-CBN. According to Daza, her boyfriend is very supportive of her career. For her first project as a Kapamilya star, Daza will part of the upcoming series “Nathaniel” with Shaina Magdayao and Gerald Anderson. (MNS)

Will Jewel return to showbiz after her wedding?

Jewel Mische (MNS Photo) Actress Jewel Mische is still undecided if she will continue to pursue her acting career after her wedding later this year to her American boyfriend. “It’s hard to say what’s going to happen in the future but I’m just so excited right now to get married. There’s so much right now in my plate, so I don’t know yet” Mische said in an interview. “But you know, an actor will always be an actor. That’s what I say,” she added. Mische has revealed that she will be have a winter wedding in Michigan with her fiance, whom she identified only by his first name, Alister. After their US wedding, Mische said they will be traveling and won’t kids right away. “We talked about that already, we don’t want to have kids right now, not yet. Maybe mga two or three years (pa),” the actress said. Mische also said she feels very welcome with Alister’s family. “I stayed there for six months and invested time with his family and friends. I love them so much and they love me so much. I am very much accepted, very much cherished and acknowledged,” says Mische. (MNS)

Bianca the busydody

Bianca King (MNS photo) Heavy workload hasn’t stopped actress Bianca King from making time to start two businesses: a restaurant and a yoga studio. The yoga studio, which offers hot yoga classes, anti-gravity and Zumba, opened last month at Rockwell. The restaurant, located along Tomas Morato, commences business soon. “Matagal kong pinagisipan kung saan pwedeng ilagay ‘yung pinagipunan ko sa showbiz,” said Bianca, who took a short course at the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA). Her venture into the food business was prompted by good friend, Xander Angeles. They wanted a restaurant that caters to health-conscious people “kasi there is lack of those in Quezon City kaya naisipan namin.” Aside from acting and hosting, cooking has always been one of Bianca’s passions and she is excited to put her talent to good use. “Nag-try akong mag-apprentice sa directing dati pero wala eh. Nasa puso ko talaga ang cooking,” she said. “Sa totoo lang, hindi ko na alam paano i-juggle ‘yang mga commitments ko. Pero I’m very happy kasi maraming work… blessing ‘yan,” said Bianca. (MNS photo) Manila, Philippines  – Pope Francis will meet with leaders of various religions when he visits the Philippines next month, pushing a message of tolerance in order to combat global religious conflicts, a church official said Monday. The pontiff will hold a 10 to 15-minute dialogue with the dean of the Philippines’ largest Islamic studies centre and a Taiwan-based Buddhist leader on January 18, according to Father Carlos Reyes, a member of the committee organising the Pope’s visit. He will also meet with the Hong Kong-based regional head of the Greek Orthodox Church, as well as a Hindu leader, Protestant bishops, and a Manila-based rabbi, Reyes told reporters. The dialogue will be held at the 400-year-old church-run University of Santo Tomas in Manila, where the pontiff will also address a crowd of 25,000 youths. “The church is Catholic, it is universal, we are in dialogue with the world,” Reyes said. “It is our job as men and women of religion not to allow the fundamentalists or extremists to hijack the religion.” The event comes as the largely-Catholic Philippines is implementing a peace deal signed last March with its main Muslim rebel group to create an autonomous area for the Muslim minority in the southern islands.
