Pacquiao more motivated after Bradley’s taunts

Manny Pacquiao, right, from the Philippines, connects with a right to the head of Timothy Bradley, from Palm Springs, Calif. , in their WBO world welterweight title fight Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Las Vegas. Despite what many believed was a fight won by Pacquaio resulted in a split-decision loss to Bradley. (MNS photo) LAS VEGAS (AFP) – Manny Pacquiao is taking extra motivation from taunts by unbeaten Tim Bradley that the Filipino boxing icon has lost the hunger and killer instinct he once displayed with great passion. “The more he says that, the more he inspires me to show the hunger and killer instinct he’s talking about,” Pacquiao said Tuesday. “It’s good for me but not for him I think.” Pacquiao, 55-5 with two drawn and 38 knockouts, will fight Bradley, 31-0 with 12 knockouts, for the American’s World Boxing Organization welterweight title in Las Vegas on April 12. The fight will be a rematch of a controversial Bradley victory by split decision in June of 2012 in which all three judges scored the fight 115-113, two of them for Bradley in what was seen as a robbery from Pacquaio. “You don’t get mad. It’s part of life,” said Freddie Roach, Pacquaio’s trainer. “Revenge is great. That’s what we have a chance to do here. If everything goes right we will knock this guy out.” Bradley has noted how Pacquiao has not stopped a foe since Miguel Cotto in 2009 and has not won a fight inside 12 rounds Read More …

While saying that he isn’t sure if he can still go back to his cheerful self, Navarro told viewers of “It’s Showtime” upon his return to the show: “Kayo po ang dahilan kaya ako nanatiling matatag, kung bakit ako nakatayo sa harap ninyo ngayon at ‘yun din po ang dahilan kaya gustong gusto ko na magtrabaho dahil yun po ako eh. Philippine President Benigno Aquino (2nd L) greets lawmakers after making a speech during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the House of Representatives in Quezon City, Metro Manila July 22, 2013. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III on Monday said some 14.7 million families received free health coverage from the government through the two laws he had openly supported. “Bukod po sa makabuluhang serbisyong mula sa ehekutibo, nakipag-ambagan na rin ang lehislatura upang maisabatas ang Sin Tax Reform Law at ang Responsible Parenthood Law na nagbibigay kakayahan sa atin na lalong magbigay-lingap sa ating mga kababayan,” Aquino said during the launch of the Alaga Ka Program, an advocacy campaign meant to spread information about the expanded health coverage, at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. Aquino signed both the Sin Tax Reform and Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Acts in December 2012.  Both were certified as urgent by the President. Under the Sin Tax Reform Act, 85 percent of the tax revenues will go toward the health budget. From that, 80 percent will be funneled to the Universal Health Care Program, and 20 percent will go toward health facilities enhancements. Noel Coballes, inspects the troops during the Philippine Army Change of Command Ceremony at the PA Grandstand in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Friday (February 7). Major General Hernando Iriberri, the 56th PA Commanding General replacing Coballes, is the commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division (ID) and a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Matikas” Class of 1983. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III said the resumption of peace talks depends on the willingness of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front to cooperate with the government. “They [CPP-NPA]…walked out [of] the peace talks, if you remember correctly. It really depends on their willingness to go back to the bargaining table,” Aquino told reporters during an interview. He issued the statement after authorities arrested over the weekend CPP chair Benito Tiamzon and his wife, the party’s secretary general Wilma Tiamzon. Earlier, the CPP during its 45th founding anniversary said it will no longer engage in formal talks with the Philippine government, citing the “proven unwillingness of the Aquino regime to negotiate a just peace.” But citing media reports, Aquino said the Tiamzons were in possession of hand grenades and pistols, something he said “normally does not occupy the belongings of a peace negotiator.” As for possible retaliation, the President said it would not make a difference since “the attacks [from them] have not ceased.” “So what are they saying? The Washington Monument will reopen to the public on May 12, nearly three years after it was shut due to damage from a rare earthquake centered near the US capital.©Mary Terriberry/Shutterstock.com (WASHINGTON-AFP) – The Washington Monument will reopen to the public on May 12, nearly three years after it was shut due to damage from a rare earthquake centered near the US capital. The 170-meter (555-foot) obelisk, a major tourist draw, was shuttered when engineers found more than 150 cracks in the structure in the wake of a 5.8-magnitude quake in Virginia in August 2011. The repair bill totalled $15 million. “We are delighted to be in the home stretch with the repairs to the Washington Monument… and we look forward to the re-opening on May 12,” National Park Service director Jonathan Jarvis said on Tuesday. The landmark — erected in honor of George Washington, the first US president, and completed in 1885 — is located in the middle of the National Mall, between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial. The 2011 quake, which rattled a swathe of the US East Coast, was centered in Louisa County, northwest of Richmond. It also caused significant damage to the National Cathedral in Washington. ff/sst/adm
