Jesse Robredo’s 58th birthday Friday at Eternal Gardens in Naga City, hours before Congress finished canvassing of votes for president and vice president. Sana mag-move on na tayo,” said Robredo. Robredo said that instead of making “unfair” accusations through the media, the Marcos camp may take their complaint to the proper forum, where they will be forced to provide evidence of alleged irregularities in the elections. “Mas mabuti ngang ihain niya nang pormal iyung reklamo kaysa idinadaan sa media. Kasi tingin ko unfair, hindi lang sa akin, pero pati sa taumbayan na binibilog iyung paniniwala, binibilog iyung kaisipan sa mga bagay na wala namang pruweba,” she said. Final vote tally on Friday showed that Marcos lost the vice presidential contest to neophyte rival Robredo by just over 263,000 votes. Read More …

Lip service: record numbers of lip augmentations were performed in the US last year

In confirmation that pillowy lips are the must-have beauty accessory of the moment, it has been revealed that a record number of lip augmentation procedures were carried out in the US in 2015.  A recent survey revealed many see Jennifer Lawrence as the ideal when it comes to lip size© AFP PHOTO / TIMOTHY A. CLARY Newly released data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has confirmed that lip jobs are now the second-fastest growing facial procedure in the United States since 2000, beaten only by dermabrasion procedures. Lip implant procedures increased in every region of the US over the course of the year, with a total of 27,449 procedures carried out — an average of one every 19 minutes. Gaining popularity among both genders, lip implants have grown 48 percent since the year 2000. Lip injections, ranging from Botox and Dysport to soft tissue fillers, are also on the up throughout the country. Implants are seen as a more permanent procedure, with new designs made from soft, flexible silicone, and inserted via two small incisions at the corners of the mouth. Although designed to be long lasting, they can often be removed if necessary. Lip injections are perceived as less intimidating, as any unwanted results will usually wear off within a few months. However, it isn’t just Americans heading to the beauty clinic — figures released in January at the annual IMCAS (International Master Course on Ageing Science) conference in Paris found that cosmetic surgery is on Read More …

(MNS photo) MANILA  (PNA) – President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday expressed confusion why some of his critics described him as leader who is lacking empathy to the suffering Filipino people. ”You know I looked for definition of empathy because, actually, I cannot understand if that criticism has basis,” President Aquino said in a media interview during the launching of the Balog-Balog-Multipurpose Project in San Jose, Tarlac. From Wikipedia, the President said “empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another being is experiencing from within the other being’s frame of reference, i.e., the capacity to place oneself in another’s position.” He also cited definition of empathy from Merriam-Webster which states: “The feeling that you understand and share another person’s experience and emotions. The ability to share someone [else’s feelings].” To probe his critics wrong, President Aquino cited two events where he showed ‘empathy’ to the suffering victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013 and of the Zamboanga Read More …

Duterte on Marcos burial: It is my sole decision

Supporters of Sen. Bongbong Marcos protest outside the House of Representatives on Wednesday during the first day of the canvassing of votes. The protesters urged members of the joint canvassing committee to hold a separate date for the proclamation of the winner of the vice-presidential race.(MNS photo) DAVAO  (Mabuhay) – President-elect Rodrigo Duterte defended Thursday his decision to allow the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. The longtime Davao City mayor said the issue of Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani has divided the country and must now be put to rest. Rights groups have said Marcos’s forces killed or tortured thousands of people during martial law. “Patay na ang tao, [ano] pa ang gusto niyo? Do you want the cadaver to be burned? Would that satisfy your rage?” Duterte said. “It is my sole decision. I accept full moral, legal responsibility. I believe it has created division in the country,” he added. The presumptive president added Marcos’ children must not be made to suffer for their father’s actions. “Look… the sins of the father, if there are any, should never be visited upon the children,” he said. Duterte, who is set to be proclaimed the country’s 16th president, earlier said he will allow Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani “not because [Marcos] is a hero…but because he was a Filipino soldier.” Martial law victims have warned the dictator’s burial in the heroes’ cemetery would whitewash the strongman’s crimes Read More …

Discrepancies in COCs not necessarily proof of cheating: Gonzales

Senate President Franklin Drilon and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte oversee the opening of the ballot boxes containing Certificates of Canvass at the House of Representatives on Tuesday. The Joint Congress convened to canvass votes for the presidential and vice-presidential races.(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) – Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali Gonzales II on Thursday said discrepancies that may be found by Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) for votes for president and vice president, do not immediately point to election irregularities or manipulation. Gonzales, head of the canvassing panel of the House of Representatives, said “Kami sa NBOC, we are just doing our ministerial duty na pagbibilang ng mga boto.” If there are discrepancies between the electronic and hard copies of the Certificates of Canvass (COC), the NBOC refers them to the Board of Canvassers of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Gonzales explained. Comelec will then determine the reason for the discrepancy in the votes reflected in the electronic and hard copies. “Kung may pagkakaiba, then pinapupunta lang namin yung mga board of canvassers para lang ipaliwanag yung pagkakaiba at hindi nangangahulugan na mayroong manipulasyon,” Gonzales said. “Ang batayan namin sa electronic system would be the electronically transmitted results. Ang task is i-prepare namin yung boto na nakalagay diyan for president and vice president at kung nagta-tally ito pareho sa hard copy ng COC na manually pinadala sa amin,” Gonzales said. On Wednesday, NBOC deferred the canvassing of votes from the provinces of Laguna, Davao del Norte, and Ilocos Read More …
