(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) –  Archbishop Oscar Cruz on Tuesday said that the Catholic Church will not prevent the authorities from arresting a priest who has committed a crime. Cruz made the statement as incoming President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to divulge sins of the clergy. “Kapag may masamang ginawa ang isang pari, may krimen, kailangan po siyang managot sa estado. Kung kailangan siyang makulong ay ikulong,” the bishop said. Duterte said he will give himself until June 29, a day before he assumes office, to reveal the alleged sins of the clergy. He said among the sins he will reveal are those committed by bishops who have children. Duterte warned he will reveal the names of the children and details of where they live. “You want me to do it? I will do it. Sumobra kayo. You went beyond the bounds,” he said. Cruz said that the Church is not disappointed over Duterte’s revelations against the bishops. “Sabihin na lang po ninyo kung sino at ano ang ginawa at aasikasihin naman po iyon,” Cruz said during the radio interview. He added: “Tama po iyon para malinis po natin ang ranggo ng kaparian. Minsan nga po talaga ang mga obispo ay hindi nila nalalaman ang ginagawa ng Read More …

“Success books” are a dime a dozen and practically shows every possible way on the route to take for one to be successful in life. Duterte bares talk with Trudeau

Presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte speaks at a press conference in Davao City, Monday. In a press conference which started before midnight on Wednesday, Duterte said he and Trudeau had a talk over the phone at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Manila time. Among the topics they discussed were respect for human rights and the Canadian hostage of the Abu Sayyaf group. Duterte described their conversation as a “civil one.” “We are partners, we remain to be partners for all time. I’m aware there are Filipinos, a lot are working there, some are immigrants and I’m happy they have found protection in your labor laws,” Duterte quoted himself as saying, when asked what he told the Canadian leader. The long-time Davao City mayor said he also apologized that Canadian citizens were kidnapped in the Philippines. Duterte warns De Lima: ‘Don’t fight me; you’ll lose’

Defense Secretary Volatire Gazmin, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas attend the 5th public hearing on the Mamasapano incident. (MNS photo) DAVAO CITY, May 26 (Mabuhay) – The word war between presumptive President-elect Rodrigo Duterte and Senator-elect Leila de Lima is far from over. In an early morning press conference here on Thursday, the incoming President said he would launch an investigation on De Lima for her supposedly slow response in busting the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison. Duterte said that it took the former Justice Secretary seven months to start doing anything about his tip on the  proliferation of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) inside the national penitentiary. “I will dig deep. Sabihin ko sa kanya, ‘Hoy, hija. Huwag mo akong masyadong pakialaman sa bunganga ko (I will tell her, ‘Woman, don’t focus on how I say things’). You better look in your own backyard because you have a very serious problem there. Shabu is being cooked there inside the penitentiary. It took her seven months to enter the premises,” the tough-talking mayor said. It turns out that the rift between Duterte and De Lima goes a long way. In 2014, Duterte testified in the Senate and threatened to kill alleged rice smuggler Davidson Bangayan. “Shabu [inside the Bilibid] started during her time! Siya ang magbantay sa akin (And she will censor me)? I called her attention when she criticized me after I testified in the Senate on rice smuggling. Nag-mura ako doon (I Read More …

Leni accuses Marcos camp of calling for ‘people power’ to protest VP count

Supporters of Leni Robredo hold a rally outside the Batasang Pambansa on Wednesday, as the Joint Session of Congress starts the canvassing of votes for president and vice president. The group pushed for a joint proclamation of the winners in the May 9 presidential and vice-presidential elections.(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) – Leading vice presidential candidate Rep. Leni Robredo on Wednesday expressed concern about reports that the camp of rival Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is allegedly calling for “people power” to protest her proclamation. “Kagaya kahapon na may nagpadala sa atin ng videos at pictures na umiikot karamihan sa mga informal settlers na sites na nag-e-encourage ng people power at nagsasabi na sila yung panalo,” Robredo claimed during a press conference in Quezon City. Marcos is the son of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. who was ousted from Malacañang in 1986 by a people power revolt. The uprising installed into power former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, mother of incumbent President Benigno Simeon Aquino III. Former president Marcos, who died while on exile in Hawaii in 1989, was accused of committing human rights abuses and siphoning off some $10 billion from state coffers during his two-decade rule from 1965 to 1986. Meanwhile, Robredo remains confident that she will be proclaimed vice president. “Confident naman ako na kung ano yung katotohanan yun ang lalabas… Parang nakakalungkot lang na parang tine-take advantage yung hindi pagkaalam ng tao para paniwalaan yung isang kasinungalingan,” Robredo said. “Yung sa akin lahat naman tayo may karapatang Read More …

Actress Nora Aunor (3rd left) joins members of Migrante International and Gabriela at a protest march to Mendiola in Manila to mark the 20th death anniversary of Flor Contemplacion on Tuesday. Contemplacion, an overseas Filipino worker, was executed in Singapore in 1995 for murder. (MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) – After being spared from the death sentence and serving eight years in prison, overseas Filipino worker Jonard Langamin is now reunited with his family in Manila. Langamin, 32-years old, arrived Wednesday morning on board a Philippine Airlines flight PR 683 from Damman, Saudi Arabia. The Ople Center said the OFW was meted the death penalty by the Saudi Government in 2008 after being found guilty of killing fellow Pinoy Robertson Mendoza. He was spared from beheadings in 2012 after the family of Mendoza signed a “tanazul” or affidavit of forgiveness. Langamin extended his gratitude to all who personally assisted him in his case until he was pardoned. Ople said Vice President Jejomar Binay helped process the financial assistance in raising the blood money, as required under the Sharia law. (MNS)

I knew that he goes to that gym and I go to that gym pero iba-iba ‘yung schedules namin so never kami nagkakatagpo. Nagulat ako, ‘Papa!’ It just happened. But we talked. Why Robin feels responsible for Mariel’s miscarriage

Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla (MNS Photo) “Kasalanan ko iyon kasi ayaw ko,” actor-host Robin Padilla said as he admitted that he felt responsible for the first miscarriage of his wife, “It’s Showtime” mainstay Mariel Rodriguez. According to Padilla, he rejected suggestions from experts to have Rodriguez undergo the “painful” heparim regimen in an attempt to prevent a pregnancy loss. His wife later suffered two miscarriages, one in March last year and another six months later. The heparim regimen, as described by a popular American science magazine, is prescribed to pregnant women who have a high risk of developing serious complications from blood clots. The 2014 article noted, however, that the regimen “does not appear to lower the risk of blood clots or miscarriage during pregnancy.” It may also cause bruising and result in minor bleeding involving the nose, gums, or vagina. Rodriguez first announced her third pregnancy on an episode of “It’s Showtime” last Saturday. (MNS)
