Why is it so difficult to stop a determined person?

Chinkee Tan “Why am I having a hard time attaining my goal?” “Why do I stop at the middle of a fight?” “Why am I being dragged down and why does this affect me so much? “Why do I lose heart whenever I have a problem?” Are you wondering how other people can do it? They don’t seem to give up whatever they are going through in life. They will face whatever problem or challenge head-on, even if it keeps on coming back and they can still recover from it. But for you, it’s a different story. You can’t seem to do what they do! One secret of successful people is that they are DETERMINED! Why? When you are determined: √ You don’t back out on anything √ You don’t retreat from any challenge √ Nothing and no one can stop him For example, if you want to lose weight then you won’t mind the work you need to do at the gym and to let go of your favorite sweets. If you want to save, you won’t mind limiting your spending. If you want to finish your education, you will not complain about sleepless nights or sacrificing bonding time with your friends so that you have more study time. The result, SUCCESS! Why is it difficult to stop a person who is determined? What can we learn from them? COMMITMENT Determined people are committed to their goal 101%. When they say it is what they want, it is definitely Read More …

Can we learn any values by watching AlDub?

Chinkee Tan They are all over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TV, Radio and newspapers. I am talking about Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (a.k.a Yaya Dub) or better known as “AlDub,” the stars of Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye (literal meaning “street series”). Who are they and how did they manage to catch the attention, admiration and romantic itch of each child, adult, male or female, within just a mere three months? Is it because they are a good-looking pair? Well, yes…but all of us, whether love teams or individuals, showbiz people or not, are really created beautiful and handsome. Is it because they are a new love team in showbiz? Hmm, if this were the case, then I’m not too sure, because it shouldn’t be this fast. This is considered only “warm up” period. Is it because of the DubSmash trend? It surely helped, because that’s where Yaya Dub’s character started. Is it because of their literal “LDR” relationship? Perhaps. They have this chemistry even if they are in an “LDR” or Long Distance Relationship due to their split screen communication and interaction. All of these are true, but I believe that there is a much deeper reason why millions of fans support the tandem AlDub and here they are: VALUES Values that we have forgotten. Values that we have thrown away. Values that lead us back to what is morally acceptable. What are these evident values that we have seen, so far, in Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye? RESPECT FOR THE ELDERLY “Ma! Read More …

Everything Happens for a Reason…

Chinkee Tan I have a lot of memories of my recent trip to Ireland: the beautiful weather, the historical sites that date back to 1400s, the magnificent sceneries and landscapes. But the most unforgettable moment was when I met a new friend there who had recently lost a loved one. This friend had a very difficult time moving on, and asked, “What else is my purpose in life without my loved one?” In other words, “What am I living for?” This person had felt that all the work and sacrifice is now for nothing. I honestly do not have an answer to that. But one thing I learned in life is that, “EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON” whether it be good or bad things. We may never know the ultimate reason why some things do happen while others don’t happen, but we just need to be hopeful that our life will work out for good, and have faith that God has allowed this to happen for a reason. We just need to TRUST that GOD is SOVEREIGN. When I say sovereign it means that the Lord has control over everything. He knows what He is doing. We just need to trust Him, that His plan is good and perfect for us. This brings me to my second point that good things or bad things may happen in our life, but it is meant for good. “Chinkee, are you saying that I should be happy that I lost someone I loved Read More …

Always Chink Positive + Part 1

Chinkee Tan What often comes to your mind when you are about to board an airplane? “What if it’s going to crash!” What often comes to your mind before you enter into a business venture? “What if it doesn’t make money!” Whether we admit it or not, we are quicker to think of the negative rather than of the positive. Being a negative thinker can be a bad habit. Because it is a habit, it will be difficult to think positively about life especially if we were not taught how to be positive, and if we grew up surrounded by negative people. The question is, how can you be a positive thinker when everything around you influences you to always be negative? 10 PRACTICAL TIPS TO STAY POSITIVE TIP #1: SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE It is good to have many friends, but choose your circle of friends. These are the people whom you will be hanging out with more often. As the saying goes “tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are”. If we allow ourselves to be surrounded by people who do nothing but criticize, are ungrateful, and pessimistic, it won’t be long until you too will find yourself doing the same thing. Negativism is highly contagious! Choose people who are supportive and positive. Exposing yourself to these types of people will help you think and act positively. TIP #2: ALWAYS THINK THAT THE GLASS IS HALF FULL, AND NOT HALF EMPTY Read More …

How to Make Money in a Down Economy

Chinkee Tan Have you ever wondered if it is a smart idea to invest when the economy is down? Or you have the money and you want to make it grow, but you are hesitant because of the unstable economy that you might lose your hard-earned money, so better not invest? Let me tell you something; there’s an old saying that goes like this, “BUY LOW, SELL HIGH.” “Chinkee, when will you know it is low?” Aside from making your personal research, asking the experts, trusting your instinct, you just got to TAKE THE RISK.  Everything is a risk, yes, but in investing, it is a calculated one, a risk that can either make you gain a lot from it or lose some or all your money. I can still recall when I bought some plans from an insurance company. This was the time when the economy was not doing well and we heard of them going public via stock market. I just bought because my sister was the one who sold it. Truly enough, after a few years, she called me and told me, “Ahia, the insurance you purchased made money. The company went public and for every plan holder they will receive shares from the profit made. You will receive a 6 digit check amount.” I was happy at the same time sad. Happy because I will receive money from an investment I never expected; sad because I only invested a little. Investing per se requires a SELF CHECK, Read More …
