Chinkee Tan 41 million tweets in 24 hours! 51% rating for the show Eat Bulaga, which is unprecedented in the entire history of advertising and TV. There is no denying that AlDub is a monster hit among Filipinos here and worldwide. Are you one of those who religiously follow AlDub? Can you relate to this love team? What are the things that we can learn from them and apply to marriage? There may be some people who don’t understand why AlDub has such an impact on Filipinos. For them, it is just about watching a silly and shallow “kalyeserye” (or street theater) and all this hype and fanaticism is absurd. Well, it all depends on one’s viewpoint. While it may be shallow, for me as long as the audience can pick up lessons from it then it is not at all foolish to watch it and can be worth our time. We really need more entertainment shows that share positive lessons, regardless of its being shallow, as others might think. It would actually be preferable than shows that claim to have “deep” or intellectual themes but are full of negative lessons and values. So what are the positive lessons that we can learn from AlDub that we can apply to marriage? SENSIBILITY In a marriage relationship it is important to be aware of the feelings. Selfishness should have no place in your married or family life. Once you are married you begin to consider what your spouse wants too. It Read More …
Chinkee Tan It’s unfair! Why does she have it, but I don’t? You are luckier in life than I am. Why does he get all the good things? I wish I were he. Do you carry these sentiments? If you do, you may have an issue with envy. We may not want to admit it or maybe we just don’t even realize that we are envious of other people. Perhaps we ignore the feeling because we may think it is normal to feel this way. But if we don’t deal with envy in our hearts, resentment may begin to build up then we begin to be depressed, ungrateful and stressed. How come there are people who are envious? Why are there people who can’t seem to help but be filled with envy? What is the root of their envy? Here are some reasons: DEPRIVED Maybe they were deprived of a lot of things when they were growing up – not only of the things they wanted but also of the things they needed. So, when they see that other people are able to get and receive what they want without much effort, they become filled with envy. COMPARISON You probably always compare yourself with others. You want to have what your friends have. You want to achieve what your colleagues have achieved. Let me ask you, if someone shaves off his hair, would you also do the same? It is a never-ending cycle of comparing yourself with others. In the Read More …

Chinkee Tan Are you a housewife or a stay-at-home mom? Are you bored from staying at home the whole day? Has your self-esteem decreased because you are “just” a housewife? There are many reasons why you became a stay at home mom. Some of them might be… You have never worked outside the home. As soon as you graduated, you got married and became a housewife. Thus, you may feel that your years of education are wasted. You have experienced working but your husband asked you to stop since his income is enough to sustain the family. Thus, you may feel that the additional income you could bring in could have helped a lot more. Your may have a child who has special needs, so you need to be present and hands on. Thus, you may feel that you had no choice but to stay home and care for the needs your child. Some may have overlooked the value of being a housewife. But let me tell you the truth, being a housewife is no laughing matter. It is not just a simple domestic responsibility, but a major responsibility. Never entertain the idea that you have no value just because you stay home all day, that you don’t have worth, or that you don’t have anything to contribute. Never ever declare that you are “just” a housewife or “just” a stay-at-home mom. To all the housewives, let me tell who you really are…. YOU ARE A HERO One major qualifier Read More …

INQUIRER.net U.S. Bureau October 21st, 2015 08:36 PM Justin Trudeau’s victorious Liberal party in Canada has pledged to lay down “more inclusive” immigration policies. CBC PHOTO SAN FRANCISCO—Canada dealt a big blow to incumbent conservatives by voting in its first new leader in nearly a decade in a general election that gave Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party an absolute majority. This is good news for immigrants. The Liberal Party has promised to make family reunification easier for new immigrants by doubling the number of parents and grandparents of immigrants admitted under the Canadian parents and grandparents program (PGP) that are granted permanent residency each year to 10,000, according to a report by Immigration.Canada. The number of immigrant parents and grandparents allowed into Canada under the PGP program is limited to 5,000 per year, imposed by the Harper government, which claimed that older immigrants place a burden on Canada’s health-care system. But Liberal leader Trudeau says that reuniting families was an important help to middle class families, with older relatives often assisting young parents by helping out with tasks such as child care, allowing them to go to work and save money on child day care costs. Liberals have also promised to double the budget for processing applications under the parents and grandparents (PGP) program, which will significantly reduce the current multiyear wait times for immigration applicants. The Liberals also promise to grant the spouses of immigrant’s permanent resident status as soon as they arrive in Canada. Currently, spouses receive conditional visas Read More …
