I thought about a lot of marriage breaking up and it seems that annulments have been increasing in the Philippines and has actually been more socially accepted. So why do marriages end? How can a couple who are really in love with each other end up hating each other? How did “till death do us part” become such a cliché? I have heard many speakers, counselors and even preachers say that money is the number one cause of separation by a factor of 4:1. While money is definitely a primary concern of many break-ups, there is very little factual data to support such a claim. However, many studies would put money as one of the leading cause along with communication, infidelity, wrong expectation, intimacy and commitment; although not necessarily the number one and by no means a factor of 4:1. Sorry to burst the bubble of some speakers, counselors and preachers – I would urge them to double-check their facts. Despite money not being the leading cause, it is definitely a concern for many marriages and can lead to the breaking up of marriages. I am not an expert in marriages and I have no qualms about telling people that I can be clueless when it comes to keeping a ‘perfect’ marriage, just ask my wife! However, after 26 years of being together, my wife and I managed to survive the many challenges in our marriage and most of those challenges are financial in nature. By God’s grace, I think Read More …

How To Rent Your Own Bazaar Space in Metro Manila

Christmas is just around the corner and entrepreneurs know that this is the best time to sell products. For many years, bazaars have been the popular venue to do product testing. Budding business owners would join one to see how the market responds to whatever it is that they have to offer. It’s smart and very practical. All they have to do is devote a couple of days versus renting a mall space that would require security deposits and a long-term commitment. There are success stories wherein brands that began as stalls in bazaars became established businesses that many of us know today. These are Mary Grace Café, Snoe Beauty and S&H Fashion to name a few. Not even the rising popularity of e-commerce seems to be affecting the attraction of shoppers to bazaars especially during Christmas. If you want to take advantage of the season, Entrepreneur Philippines compiled the bazaar fees around the metro for your guidance. Photo via Entrepreneur Philippines There are 3 things that greatly affect bazaar rates. The first is location. Renting a space in strategic, sought after venues such as the SMX Convention Center would obviously be more expensive than renting a space in less popular areas. That is one of the reasons why joining the Trendsetter’s Bazaar could cost up to Php 2,041.70 per square meter. The date of the bazaar can also affect the fees. The general rule is the closer the date is to Christmas day, the more expensive it gets because Read More …

Fitch Ratings raised the Philippines’ sovereign rating by one level, from BBB- to BBB, with a stable outlook, amid favorable economic conditions and planned tax reform. The upgrade of the Philippines’ sovereign rating is important as it would bring down the costs of overseas borrowing for Filipino companies. Also, it will bring down the cost of capital for the system and eventually reflect in terms of lower credit cost. Any international credit rating agency upgrading the sovereign rating clearly shows the faith they have on the country’s economic policies.”This will also have an indirect positive effect on corporates when they borrow abroad. It will have a positive impact on corporate borrowing. Fitch noted that “strong and consistent macroeconomic performance has continued, underpinned by sound policies that are supporting high and sustainable growth rates.” “Investor sentiment has also remained strong, which is evident from solid domestic demand and inflows of foreign direct investment,” it added. According to Fitch, investor confidence has not been impacted by the country’s anti-drug war. Fitch sees real gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 6.8% in 2018 and 2019, which it noted would maintain the Philippines’ place among the fastest-growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region. Fitch took the Philippines’ proposed tax reform program into account and expects the country’s fiscal profile to improve as a result of it. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have passed their versions of the first tax reform package and are now holding bicameral talks. The tax reform package could Read More …
