Access to Banaue Rice Terraces, an “8th Wonder of the World”, has been made faster with the opening of flights linking Bagabag Airport in Nueva Viscaya from Clark International Airport in Pampanga. Banaue Rice Terraces [by George Tapan via Facebook] Visits to the famed man-made rice terraces created by the Ifugao tribes over 2,000 years ago can now be done via the Batanes-based airline Wakay Air Services after it started regular charter flights from Clark Int’l Airport in May. The Banaue Rice Terraces World Heritage Sites are now just five hours away from Manila via Wakay Air. The land drive usually takes 10-12 hours. Bagabag, the closest public airport to the Rice Terraces, is a 30-minute flight from Clark Pampanga. The Department of Tourism announced the opening of the flights and encouraged tourists to visit the Cordillera provinces of Ifugao and Mountain Province during June to July before harvest, and January to March before cleaning and planting. Wakay Air operations manager James Ong said the Clark-Bagabag flights will generate investment opportunities for Northern Luzon, according to an Inquirer article. The Bagabag Airport is classified as a community airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines under the Department of Transportation and Communication. Chinkee Tan Is your spouse physically hurting you? Or telling you hurtful things? Do you feel abused physically or even verbally by your spouse? Being married for 17 years, after numerous counselling, I just need to write this because I have witnessed many women who have been physically abused yet choose to live in silence and fear. Likewise, I have witnessed many men who have become so resigned about their relationship with their own wives because of verbal abuse. ACCEPT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM Unless you accept the fact that you are in a situation wherein you need help, you will not be able to see any positive change in your situation. Stop being in denial. Don’t cover up or even justify what your wife or husband is doing. Start accepting that you are in a problematic situation. Accepting your situation for what it is – is not easy. Oftentimes, you have probably wanted to just ignore your situation. But until you are able to do the first step – which is admit that you have a problem – you won’t be able to improve your relationship with your spouse. Okay, so now that you have accepted that you do have a problem in your situation, now what? ATTEND COUNSELLING Now that you have admitted that you need help, it’s now time to decide to get help. The presence of physical or verbal abuse in a relationship warrants help. Yes, it’s good for you, as a couple, to talk Read More …
In a recent article in Asia Times, William Pesek a Tokyo-based journalist and former columnist for Barron’s and Bloomberg noted that President Rodrigo Duterte might be “shooting the 100 million-person (Philippine) nation in the proverbial foot?” with his bloody war on drugs, instead of continuing to improve the economy he inherited from former President Benigno Aquino—“an economy on the ascendancy – from weak link to investment-grade growth star in just six years” …
So should I ask my son and risk his lying? If he does, he will get 10 times the negatives and even worse his fast will be negated. As a father, my job is to protect him and guide him. What is better for my son? Shall I ask or shall I not?
Nas Daily, a daily video site by Nuseir Yassin who has become a Facebook celebrity after generating over 150 million views, has produced a $100 tourism video on the Philippines. Nuseir Yassin [via Facebook] Nas Daily’s Day 434 video “This doesn’t cost millions” shows the many tourism offerings of the Philippines and the Filipinos, was posted on Facebook on June 17 and has already raked in 412 thousand views after 2 days. Yassin’s video actually lasts 1 minute like his other viral videos – with the feature on the Philippines running 30 seconds. Yassir, an Israeli Arab who has declared the Philippines as his favorite country after visiting it in 2017 and posting videos about his stay, produced the tourism video on his own in New York. In the video post Yassir, an Economics and Computer Science graduate from Harvard University, said he wanted to show how a mere $100 dollars budget can produce an effective promotional video for so much less than what governments spend usually on agency-produced videos. Yassir captioned his Day 434 video with: “I am always amazed by how much money is wasted in the media business. Governments spend millions of dollars to make simple videos while agencies take a huge cut of that. Why? When it's not your own money, it's so easy to spend it the wrong way. And in countries where every dollar is needed, that becomes wasteful. So I tried to take a swing at making a tourism video for the Philippines Read More …
Trump Tower Manila developer Robbie Antonio is collaborating with 48 of the world’s leading architects and designers to bring limited edition designer pre-crafted properties to Manila. Robbie Antonio Antonio, CEO of Revolution Precrafted, is pioneering the pre-crafted home concept to simplify the process of owning a dream home by a dream designer by allowing anyone to hand-pick a design by world-renowned architects, artists, and designers – including Tom Dixon, Sou Fujimoto, Fernando Romero, David Salle and celebrities such as Daphne Guiness and Lenny Kravitz – and have it transported right on the owner’s doorstep. The real estate developer, who himself owns a mansion in Manila designed by Rem Koolhaas, is creating designer homes and pavilions that are made to order and shipped in a span of 3 months. The Revolution pre-crafted home features all essential space functions with complete provisions for utilities. No two homes or pavilions are alike with the real estate developer giving a free hand to his designers. The Century Properties CEO initially instructed designers to create structures from 50 to 250 square meters with components that could fit in a shipping container, allowing the pre-crafted home or pavilion to be shipped to anywhere in the world. The pre-crafted designs are also flexible, with structures that can be dismantled and moved from location to location. Armando Bartolome Almost all kids have entrepreneurial skills. They all have the same goals– to have more “baon” when they go to school. When I was in Grade 3, I also wanted to have more baon. But instead of forcing my parents to give me more money, I thought of ways to raise money myself. Instead of taking the cab, I would walk to the nearest bus stop and take the bus home. It saved me a great deal. From what I saved, I bought a bag of candies and sold it to my classmates. The teachers in school also became my loyal customers. I sold them “walis tambo” which my grandfather made. I also helped my grandfather sell flowers at Plaza Miranda during All Souls Day. My parents also nurtured my entrepreneurial streak by asking me to help them sell “nilagang saba” after school. Through these little businesses, I was able to build up my savings. My young mind naturally developed the discipline required to be an entrepreneur– no one forced it on me. Our parents raised us in different ways, and what we learned from our parents we tend to impart to our own children. Parents, by nature, want to shelter their children and provide them everything they want. But when we expose our children to life’s realities at an early age, they can become more independent and responsible when they grow up. Teach them the value of earning It is better to let your children realize that Read More …
