SCE Recommends Solutions to Help With High Summer Bills

(Southern California Edison Logo) ROSEMEAD, Calif., Sept. 10, 2013 — Southern California Edison (SCE) reached a new year-to-date peak power demand of 22,534 megawatts (enough to power about 14 million average Southern California homes at a point in time) last week. With the high heat expected to continue sporadically over the next few weeks, SCE is offering customers solutions to combat high electric bills. “We’re well aware of the higher-than-normal bills our customers may face after an especially hot month, when they’ve been using their air conditioning more than usual,” said Seth Kiner, SCE’s vice president of customer programs. “We want people to know that there are tools and incentives that can help them keep track of their energy spending, as well as payment solutions for those that may need assistance.” For example, more than 333,000 SCE customers have signed up for the Budget Assistant tool, which alerts them when they approach their set monthly spending goal. The My Account feature on SCE.com can also help customers monitor their energy usage, view their current bill and projected next month’s bill. Save Power Days reward customers with up to $100 a year in bill credits for conserving energy from 2-6 p.m. SCE customers may also make payment arrangements and/or see if they qualify for financial assistance programs. More details are available at www.sce.com/highbillhelper. Customers who don’t have air conditioning or don’t want to use it can also escape to cool centers, which offer respite from the heat. A call to 211 can help locate nearby locations.  SCE recommends these easy ways to save: Set Read More …

LIFE AFTER BANKRUPTCY

Atty. Paul Allen According to government statistics, 1.664,000 Americans filed for bankruptcy between September 2010 and September 2011. What does this mean? It means you are not alone! For many, bankruptcy provides a second financial chance. Although a bankruptcy filing will stay on your credit record for up to 10 years, it need not be the dire problem some people seem to think. First, there are laws that forbid discrimination against you if you have filed bankruptcy. Second, providing you show consistent employment history and financial responsibility, you can rebuild your credit. Our office has the expertise to show you how. Filing for bankruptcy is not hard, It’s the time leading up to that decision that is hard. You worry about what people may think. You worry about whether you can ever get credit again. Can you ever buy a car, or a house? Can you refinance your home? How do you begin to rebuild your credit so that you can move forward? You need credit to get credit but who will give you credit and trust you. Don’t worry, it’s not as difficult as you may think. While filing bankruptcy is initially considered a negative on your credit report, since it lowers your fico score, it can also help you secure new credit. How is that, you may ask? BIR: Online filing of ITRs to be rolled out next year

MANILA, Philippines – Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Hernares on Tuesday said the tax collecting agency is now putting in place measures for the electronic filing of income tax returns (ITRs) by April next year. Henares said the agency is in talks with the Department of Budget and Management for the online payment system. “We will put up interactive forms for self-employed individuals to file their ITRs online with an option to pay electronically or through banks,” said Henares. She added that by next year, taxpayers will soon have the option to file their ITR either electronically or manually. She added that BIR is now pilot-testing other tax-related payments such as the value-added tax which it plans to implement by the end of the year. Other measures include the improvement of information technology capacity of registering corporations as well as properties, the state agency said. Business ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1 “This will provide us assurance that those who registered with us are legitimate persons,” Henares said.

ASIDE from the pork barrel scam issue, I think that by now, many taxpayers are aware that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is working doubly hard to attain its collection goal. One of its strategies to achieve its target is to strictly enforce tax laws. This has resulted in the denial of request for rulings issued to some taxpayers, including the rulings on upstream merger (BIR Ruling No. 508-2012, Aug. 3, 2012), deductibility of royalties (BIR Ruling No. 014-2012, Jan. 4, 2012) and NOLCO (BIR Ruling No. 214-2012, March 28, 2012), among others.
