Globe’s Global Filipino School (GFS) program has added Quezon City to its growing number of supported schools through the introduction of GFS to Masambong High School (MHS), the 1st public school in QC to benefit from the program.

Masambong High School’s 1,300 students and 65 teaching and non-teaching staff will now have access to the GFS e-library with infrastructure support and ICT equipment such as the Globe Digital Learning Lab – a mobile cart of ICT gadgets composed of Globe Prepaid Supersticks, charging station, netbooks, tablets, and projectors powered with superior internet connectivity.

The GFS Lab can be used to teach different subject matters whether inside or outside the classroom to encourage creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

The Creative Space can, likewise, be used as a teacher training center for the DepEd Division of Quezon City as part of the partnership between Globe Telecom and DepEd.  Under the program, MHS teachers were given training on how to seamlessly use internet connectivity and ICT tools in their subject expertise.  The teachers in turn, are responsible for sharing the knowledge with neighboring schools as MHS will be serving as a teacher training hub for DepEd Division of QC on the use of internet connectivity and ICT tools in the classroom.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications said of the inclusion of QC in its program: “Quality education goes hand-in- hand with ICT which allows learning to take place not only within the classroom but even beyond it.   Mobile internet adoption and the availability of affordable data-capable gadgets make it easier now for both students and teachers to access a vast library of information previously out of their reach. We believe that by providing the teachers and students with the tools they need, we can help uplift the state of Philippine education one school at a time.”

Masambong joins the targeted 221 GFS schools to be provided with digital technology laboratories by 2020 as part of Globe’s mission to help bring its students and teachers towards compliance with the 21st Century Learning Framework.

De Lima: SolGen resorting to ‘basest of technicalities’, not arguments

Senator Leila De Lima (MNS Photo) MANILA, Mar 21 (Mabuhay) – “Desperate.” This is how Senator Leila de Lima described the move of the Solicitor General seeking the dismissal of the senator’s petition to nullify her arrest. Solicitor General Jose Calida told the Supreme Court in a manifestation that De Lima supposedly falsified the notarization of her pleading. The OSG alleged that one Atty. Maria Cecille T. Tresvelles-Cabalo administered the oath on De Lima on February 24, 2017, the day De Lima was arrested upon the order of Branch 204 Presiding Judge Juanita Guerrero. The OSG explained that Cabalo could have only administered De Lima’s oath at PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City since the former’s commission as notary public is for Quezon City. The OSG also noted that Cabalo is a sorority sister of De Lima at San Beda College of Law’s Lambda Rho Sigma, which was co-founded by De Lima In a press release sent by her office on Monday, De Lima pointed out that the Office of the Solicitor General “is scraping the bottom of the barrel for whatever argument is left to support her continued illegal detention” with its repeated attempts to “resort to the basest of technicalities, and in lieu of substantial arguments against the merits of her Supreme Court petition.” “The senator said that the OSG attack is obviously borne out of desperation,” it added. In the same press release, De Lima maintained that Calida’s allegation “has no factual basis.” De Lima, Read More …

PNoy to spend Holy Week in ‘resorts’

President Benigno Aquino III will spend the Holy Week holidays in “resorts.” “Iyong dating gawi, either sa Times Mountain Resort sa Quezon City o kaya naman sa Pangarap River Resort, doon tayo maglalagi,” Aquino told reporters Wednesday when asked on where he would spend the Holy Week. The “resorts,” however, are only references to his family’s home on Times Street in Quezon City and his official residence Bahay Pangarap. On a serious note, Aquino, a bachelor, said he will be with his sisters for Visita Iglesia on Maundy Thursday and for Mass on Easter Sunday. Aquino, meanwhile, reminded Filipinos to do good even after the Holy Week is over. “Huwag po sana nating kalimutan: ang pagpapakumbaba, pagmamalakasakit, at paggawa ng matuwid ay hindi lamang para sa mahal na araw. Ang ginagawa nating pagninilay at panalangin ay paghahanda lamang para sa isang buong buhay ng pagsunod sa halimbawa ni Kristo,” he said in his Lenten message. He also reiterated the Palace’s earlier call for Filipinos to make sacrifices just as Jesus Christ did. “Tiyak naman pong lahat ng ating pinaghirapan ay may positibong ambag para sa ikabubuti  ng mas nakakarami. At di po ba, napakaliit lamang ng hinihingi sa atin kumpara sa ibinigay ni Hesukristo?” The President said. “Magsilbi po sanang inspirasyon sa atin ang ipinamalas na pagmamahal ni Hesukristo. Ito ang gabay natin ngayon bilang mga Kristiyano sa pagharap sa sarili nating mga sangandaan at sa pagsisilbing tanglaw sa mga Kristiyano ng kinabukasan,” he added. — KBK, GMA News

Arroyo spends third birthday under hospital arrest

Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo celebrated her 67th birthday with more than 50 guests at the Veteran’s Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City on Saturday. The former president’s guests–who were approved by the Philippine National Police–consisted of family, friends and political allies, including her former Cabinet members. This marks her third birthday celebration in the medical institution since she was placed under hospital arrest in 2012. Although Arroyo’s petition for a furlough to celebrate her birthday in her hometown in Lubao, Pampanga was junked by the Sandiganbayan, the court allowed extended visiting hours on April 4 and 6. Members of her extended family were also allowed to sleep over during the weekend. Meanwhile, her former office, the Malacañan, wished her the best through Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr.  “We want to greet her a happy birthday, and we hope that she will be happy celebrating it, along with her loved ones,” Coloma said during a press briefing. Arroyo, who is suffering from recurrent dysphagia or problems in swallowing, is under hospital arrest over plunder charges. She was first placed under hospital arrest in late 2011 over a separate electoral sabotage case. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
