MANILA, Philippines – Delta Air Lines has heeded the call of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to transfer its operations to the newer Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 3 (NAIA3) to pave the way for the P1.3-billion rehabilitation of NAIA1. Steven Crowdey, director, Philippines, Australia and Micronesia of Delta, said the relocation of its operations to the NAIA3 from NAIA1 effective Aug. 1 would be permanent. At NAIA3, customers would experience larger departure and arrival immigration halls, a smooth flow from the airport entrance to the departure gates, more seating areas and less security congestion. In addition, passengers could enjoy more shopping and dining choices and better natural lighting throughout the lobby and departure gate areas. Furthermore, Delta would install more self service check-in kiosks in the lobby, reducing the wait time for check-in which will result in a better customer experience at the airport. Terminal 3 features a two-tiered design with its ground level designed for arrivals and the second level for departures. MANILA, Philippines – The country’s budget deficit ballooned in January as the government ramped up spending for the reconstruction of areas devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda. In a statement, the Department of Finance said the deficit expanded by 75 percent to P34.2 billion in January from P19.5 billion in the same month last year. A deficit occurs when government expenditure exceeds revenue over a particular period of time. Excluding interest payments on the government’s debt, the deficit turns into a primary surplus of P22.2 billion. “The Philippines’ fiscal performance figures in recent years are a manifestation of restored normalcy in meeting the expectations of the Development Budget Coordination Committee,” Finance Secretary Purisima said. Purisima credited the country’s sound fiscal performance to improving revenue collections, declining reliance on foreign currency debt and President Aquino’s drive to transform the country into one of the fastest-growing economies. The nine students make up the first delegation from Olongapo to participate in an exchange program under a sister city agreement with Virginia Beach that was made possible with the help of Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. and the Philippine Embassy. The nine students from the Regional Science High School (RSHS) and Olongapo City National High School (OCNHS) arrived in Virgnia Beach last week to participate in the exchange program with Tallwood High School. They are accompanied by Councilor Jong Cortez and teachers Miguel Esporas and Lovella Jarobel. Just last week, Navarro returned to “It’s Showtime” after nearly two months after sustaining physical injuries when he was mauled by a group led by businessman Cedric Lee and model Deniece Cornejo inside a condominium unit in Taguig last January 22 after he allegedly raped Cornejo. Navarro denied raping her and has since filed criminal complaints against those involved in the mauling.
