Summer is a fashionable verb at Rustan’s

Enter summer: Rustan’s holds “Summering with Rustan’s” at the Glorietta Park in Ayala Center. Photos by Walter Bollozos It was a risky thing, to go with the conversion — the “verbification” of the word “summer.” But as fashion is a world known more for compounding words (manbun, mandals, flatforms, maxi-dress — all in attendance at the show) than blind veneration for the rules of syntax, guests at “Summering with Rustan’s” happily embraced the vocab addition.  Recently held at the Glorietta Park in Ayala Center Makati, Summering with Rustan’s was a high-energy presentation of trends for the season reminiscent of an old-school fair. Booths offering games surrounded the venue. Candied apples, cotton candy, and giant lollipops circulated in abundance. The lastest in summer fashion was presented, and there was a slide onstage: does it get more summer than that? Patis Tesoro showcased roadtrip fashion of the boho-luxe kind. Alternative Apparel, Mink Punk, Nike and Armani Jeans took care of skate-and-surf wear. Sinequanon, Adolfo Dominguez and Elie Tahari presented comfortable and casual summer style. Lily Pulitzer and Jill and Luna by Jojie Lloren were go-to brands for vibrant prints. Pedro del Hierro, Faconnable and Thomas Pink showed preppy cruisewear. Hackett, Oleg Cassini and Ascot Chang presented fashion for hot date nights. Natori, Just Cavalli, Seafolly, Despi, Maaji and Azura took us from loungewear to swimwear. Longchamp, Loewe, Stella McCartney, Rebecca Minkoff, Rafe, Sergio Rossi, Christian Louboutin, Rene Caovilla, Ivanka Trump, Jelly Bunny, and metallic tattoos from Kitsch covered the assortment of bags, Read More …

Armed Forces of the Philippines chief General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. on Tuesday said the military has “neutralized” about fifty percent of the forces of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. In an interview with reporters, Catapang said the rest of the members of the armed group  splintered into small groups to evade the pursuing soldiers. On Monday, the military terminated its “all-out offensive” against the  group. The military offensive has killed 139 BIFF men and wounded 53, while twelve were captured. Catapang said the military is open to talking peace with the BIFF. “Hopefully they can also join us, we are willing to talk to them, if they want to, if they want peace, peace talks we can do that for as long as if they will not anymore harm or disturb the peace in these areas,” he said. Catapang ordered the offensive on Feb. 25, exactly a month after the deadly Jan. 25 Mamasapano incident in Maguindanao, which claimed the lives of 44 Philippine National Police-Special Action Force troopers. The SAF commandos were then on a mission to arrest terrorists Malaysian Zulkifli bin Hir also known as Marwan, Filipino bomb maker and Abu Sayyaf member Basit Usman, and Malaysian bomb maker Amin Baco alias Jihad. Alan Cayetano says Taguig politics behind Robin Padilla’s push for Bangsamoro

Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano has accused actor Robin Padilla of playing politics when the latter specifically named him as one of the lawmakers who should brush up on history before giving their opinion on the Bangsamoro. “May special mention (ang pangalan ko) kasi malapit siya sa mga Tinga, so everytime na may mga issue po talagang tinutuligsa kami,” Cayetano said in a radio interview Monday morning. He said Padilla was a supporter of the Tingas during the 2010 and 2013 elections. The Tingas and Cayetanos are political rivals in Taguig. He added the Cayetanos and Muslim residents has invited the actor several times to show the development in Taguig. “Nagsalita siya nung 2010 at 2013 para sa mga Tinga…ilang beses po naming winelcome si Robin Padilla sa Taguig, ilang beses po siyang minessage. Iniimbitahan siya ng mga Muslim para maipakita yung development,” the senator said. Cayetano said that he is ready to talk with Padilla but unfortunately the latter has already branded him as anti-Muslim because of his opposition to the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law. “Kung history pag-uusapan, magkape kami ni Robin wala pong problema yan pero ang problema tinanggap na nya yung propaganda na ako ay anti-Muslim. Pag ikaw po ay anti-MILF hindi ibig sabihin na ikaw ay anti-Muslim, anti-peace,” he said. Cayetano has repeatedly made statements against BBL and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Padilla, in a post on his Instagram account Monday night, belied the accusations of Cayetano saying there was no politics involved in Read More …

DFA: Sabah not at issue in Note Verbale to KL on South China Sea

In this photo taken Feb. 25, 2014 by surveillance planes and released Thursday, May 15, 2014, by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, a Chinese vessel, top center, is used to expand structures and land on the Johnson Reef, called Mabini by the Philippines and Chigua by China, at the Spratly Islands at South China Sea, Philippines. The Philippines has protested China’s reclamation of land in the disputed reef in the South China Sea that can be used to build an airstrip or an offshore military base in the increasingly volatile region, the country’s top diplomat and other officials said Wednesday, May 14, 2014. The white arrow was added by the source. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — The recent note verbale from the Philippines to Malaysia on the issue of the extended continental shelf (ECS) in the South China Sea is part of the two neighbors’ “friendly bilateral relations” and does not in any way include the Sabah issue, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday. The DFA comment was sought on a story that the note verbale, transmitted to visiting Malaysian Defense Minister Dato Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, amounted to a quid pro quo — Manila backpedals on its Sabah claim if Kuala Lumpur manifests before a UN body an ECS definition favoring the former’s Spratlys case against China. DFA spokesman Charles Jose’s statement was shared with reporters by Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda. “The Philippines has excellent relations with Malaysia in the context of our friendly bilateral relations.
