Ex-Pasugo editor slapped with libel complaint for anti-Iglesia rant

(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Isaias Samson Jr., former editor of “Pasugo,” the official publication of the Iglesia ni Cristo, is facing a libel complaint, following his expulsion from the church. The Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office said the complaint was filed last Friday. It is set for raffle this week. Iglesia ni Cristo spokesman Edwil Zabala said he “could not confirm nor deny” the filing of the complaint. He said he has been busy with the church’s centennial closing ceremonies during the weekend. Samson, along with his family, was expelled from Iglesia ni Cristo last week for his refusal to submit to the authority of the church. The former minister claimed he was illegally detained by the church’s Sanggunian. He also said the church’s general auditor, Glicerio Santos Jr., was involved in corruption.(MNS)

Aquino: Govt to fund K-to-12 program’s full implementation in 2016

In his final State of the Nation Address (SONA), Aquino said the proposed 2016 budget already has funds for 103.2 million additional textbooks and 4.4 million more armchairs for public schools in the country. The President also used his valedictory address before Congress members to once again promote the K-to-12 program, which is still facing legal questions before the Supreme Court. “Nagpatupad po tayo ng K-to-12 dahil hindi praktikal ang pagsisiksik ng kaalaman sa 10-year basic education cycle,” Aquino said. (PhilHealth). “Sa PhilHealth dumating tayo na 47 million lang ang benepisyaryo. Halos nadoble na po natin ito nitong Hulyo. Pumalo ang saklaw ng PhilHealth sa 89.4 milyong Filipino,” Aquino said in his last State of the Nation Address. He added that his administration also amended the qualification of beneficiaries. “Tuwing eleksyon parang kabuteng nagsusulputan ang [mga] benepisyaryo ng PhilHealth dahil imbes na pangangailangan ng taumbayan ay interes ng kandidato ang naging basehan ng pagpili. Paulo Avelino (MNS photo) Actor Paulo Avelino finally broke his silence on rumors linking him to actress Bea Alonzo, his co-star in the 2014 soap “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon.” The actor denied that he is courting Alonzo, amid reports that her relationship with actor Zanjoe Marudo is on the rocks. “Me and Bea we are friends. That’s it,” Avelino told members of entertainment media at the thanksgiving party of the soap “Bridges of Love,” which is now down to its last three weeks. Gladys Reyes speaks up about INC issue

Gladys Reyes (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) -– Gladys Reyes, who is a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo, took to Instagram to share her thoughts about the controversy the religious group is currently facing. The actress said it took her a while to speak about the matter because she has been busy taping for her series and attending to her other responsibilities. According to Reyes, she appreciates that her friends and others were not quick to judge when the controversy about INC first came out. “Sa aking mga katrabaho at ‘kaibigan’ sa tunay na kahulugan ng salitang yun, maging hindi ko personal na kakilala, na hindi ko naringgan ng sarkastikong komento, na hindi agad-agad nanghusga, di nagpadama ng pagiging insensitibo, bagkus nagpaabot ng pagmamalasakit, simpatya at respeto sa aming nararamdaman kulang ang salitang salamat,” she said.
