Toni Gonzaga wins FAMAS Best Actress award

Toni Gonzaga (MNS photo) Toni Gonzaga was named Best Actress at the 63rd FAMAS Awards held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on Sunday night for her performance in the Star Cinema movie “Starting Over Again.” On Instagram, Gonzaga posted a photo of her trophy with the caption: “To God be the glory.” Her husband, director Paul Soriano, also took to Instagram to congratulate Gonzaga, saying: “My wife wins best actress! So proud of you, Tin. Hard work pays off. God is good!” Gonzaga recalled her younger days when she and her sister Alex were still just dreaming of becoming actresses one day. “Nung bata kami ni Alex, naglalaro kami ng artista-artistahan. May hawak kaming bote ng shampoo na kunwari nanalo kami ng award. Ngayon totoong award na hawak ko at FAMAS pa,” she said. For the Best Actress award, Gonzaga bested nominees including Gretchen Barretto, Kris Aquino, Kathryn Bernardo, Jennylyn Mercado, Jean Garcia, Sam Pinto, Vina Morales, Gladys Reyes and Aiko Melendez. Allen Dizon was named the Best Actor for his performance in the movie “Magkakabaung.” Meanwhile, Sarah Geronimo was hailed as the youngest recipient of the Iconic Movie Queen of Philippine Cinema award as she joined the likes of Gloria Romero, Susan Roces, Maricel Soriano, Dawn Zulueta and Nora Aunor. Aquino: ‘Overwhelming majority’ will say we went beyond expectations

Binay on SWS survey: 2016 ‘a battle for every single vote’

(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — President Jejomar Binay has said he will continue his grassroots campaign nationwide following the release of Social Weather Stations survey on Tuesday night, where he is almost tied with Sen. Grace Poe. “The elections will be a battle for every single vote and the Vice President will continue to personally meet with the people around the country,” said Rico Quicho, Binay’s spokesperson for political affairs, in a statement. Quicho added that the results of the SWS survey “will inspire the Vice President and his core supporters to work harder and not to be overconfident” The SWS survey was published by Businessworld late Tuesday. The survey was conducted September 2 to 5 among 1,200 respondents, of which 96 percent were registered voters. The respondents were given a list of 12 names, in alphabetical order with nicknames included, and were asked: “Among the names found in this list, who will you probably vote for as president of the Philippines if elections were held today?” The result showed that Poe was picked by 26 percent of the registered voters, 24 percent chose Binay, and 20 percent chose Roxas. Universal Studios Hollywood presents ‘Halloween Horror Nights’

Fright-filled “Halloween Horror Nights” was announced by Universal Studios Hollywood recently. The theme park guests will be treated to an “extreme fear destination” which features horror-filled mazes, a terror tram experience and awesome hip-hop dance show from Friday, September 18 through Sunday, November 1st. The event starts each night at 7 p.m. but closing hours vary each night throughout the event. As I was doing my groceries over the weekend, I realized that the two supermarkets on opposite ends of the mall had different business hours, one of them opening an hour earlier. Early birds like me prefer going to the one that opens earlier to avoid traffic and finish household chores as early as possible. These considerations are taken into account by businesses, including the supermarket that opens an hour earlier. An earlier opening time may attract more consumers like me, which results in increased profits and market share.

Iza plans to hire a surrogate mother?

Iza Calzado (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Actress Iza Calzado admitted that she’s not yet ready to be a mother. Calzado, who is in a relationship with British-Filipino businessman Ben Wintle, also revealed that she’s also considering using a surrogate. Calzado made the statement as she was asked of her dreams in life. “Gusto ko ikasal one day. Gusto ko maging mother, pero nagde-debate pa talaga ako. Alam ko in the next four years hindi ko pa gustong manganak. Kaya nga surrogate, so parang iniisip ko baka pwedeng may mag-surrogate muna sa first or second, tapos baka kapag ready na ako baka pwede na,” Calzado explained. Calzado admitted she’s not yet ready to settle down soon although she and boyfriend are already talking about it. “Gusto ko talaga to get married. Kasi hindi ako nag-debut. Gusto ko talaga masaya, tapos masarap ‘yung pagkain, sa wedding,” she said. Calzado is now busy promoting the movie “Etiquette for Mistresses” with Aquino, Kim Chiu and Claudine Barretto. (MNS)
