TALENTADONG Pinoy Season 2 grand winner Joseph Erwin Valerio shared his exceptional talent in illustration with the Dabawenyos last October 4 at Abreeza Mall.
Popularly known as Joseph The Artist, this Kapatid Network discovery performed four sand arts in his 30-minute act over the weekend, which truly left the Dabawenyo spectators in great awe.
By using sand as his medium in executing the various frames of scenes in four different songs, Joseph The Artist was able to communicate the message behind each track.
Joseph, who used to be a comic illustrator, opened the show with the song “My Heart Will Go On”, the original soundtrack of the undying movie Titanic. As the music was playing at the background, Joseph showed some famous scenes of this phenomenal film, such as the romantic meeting of Rose (Kate Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo Dicaprio) and sinking of the ship which carry them. This particular piece earned Joseph a gold medal, besting almost 2,000 other participants during the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in 2011.
The next background music of his performance was “Let It Go,” the official music of the 2013 Walt Disney film Frozen.
In this particular performance, Joseph featured Olaf (the snowman) and Queen Elsa’s ice castle.
The third performance featured a number of great tourist attractions and destinations in the Philippines, like the Philippine Eagle and Mt. Mayon, as the country’s tourism theme song “Pilipinas, Tara Na!” was playing.
The finale performance of Joseph was the very heart-warming song “Dance
With My Father” which even left me teary-eyed as he featured a soldier who left his daughter when he died during an encounter.
As Joseph illustrated different frames, it was like watching a movie, that’s why everyone in the audience really had their eyes glued on the screen each time Joseph would start a new frame.
“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng mga taga-Davao na nandito po ngayon. Sana po ay nagustuhan ninyo,” he said.
Joseph shared that since he snatched the top prize in Talentadong Pinoy Season 2 in 2011, blessings never stopped from pouring into him.
“Dati sa pangarap ko lang po na makapunta sa iba’t ibang lugar, ngayon ay abot-kamay na po,” he said.
For the aspiring artists, Joseph only had one advice for them: to continuously pursue their dream despite life’s adversity.
