The CNN Travel updated list of “Natural wonders: The ultimate list of scenic splendor” placed the Palawan tourist destination in the 30th spot of the 50 places it marked as works of art.

Bija Knowles describes the Philippine spot as “Nominated as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River runs for 8.2 kilometers underground and boasts limestone karst formations, stalactites and stalagmites.”

“You can cruise down the river in a canoe. Watch out for the Palawan stink badger, an adorable little skunk that lives in the area,” says the CNN recommendation about one of the world’s most incredible scenes.

The underground river has been cited by various publications and has pushed Palawan province to the top of choices for Best Island in the world.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River is found 76 kilometers northwest of Puerto Princesa City on the western coast of Palawan.

CNN features Philippines’ first female-led brewery

CNN Travel has featured Palaweňo Brewery, the first female-led brewery found in the island paradise of Palawan. The CNN video feature and accompanying article published in May, shows how the first and only craft beer in Palawan began with Aya Javier’s foresight of how craft beer can be a unique business in the Philippines. Javier chose to set up the brewery in Palawan, known worldwide for being a top beach destination. "When people come on vacation, most of them are traveling halfway around the world," says the Palaweño's founder and brewmaster. "So when we are brewing beers, we want that to emulate whatever Palawan is all about. We try to incorporate what is Palawan, like our honey here — we have three types of honey in Palawan. And what makes it a local beer is the water — so clean and pure." Producing the Ayahay Craft Beers, the Palaweňo Brewery offers 5 homegrown beer flavors that are handcrafted and manually prepared using local ingredients and from other corners of the world: Hunter (Honey nut brown ale), Ayahay Ipa (India pale ale Happy beer), Palaw’an (Honey Kolsch Tribal Beer), Palawan Wit (Belgian wheat beer, The Last Frontier’s first craft beer), Ambog Ale (American amber ale brewed with extra ego). The craft beers brewery currently prepares nearly 1,200 cases of beer monthly for distribution to restaurants, hotels, and bars in Puerto Princesa, their home base.   The post CNN features Philippines’ first female-led brewery appeared first on Good News Pilipinas. MVP Group: Model for CSR

Millions of Filipinos have been left homeless by Typhoon Yolanda, while the cost of the damage has been initially placed at more than P10 billion – and it’s obvious that rehabilitation will require massive resources and gargantuan efforts. The death toll continues to rise even as we write, but it’s quite clear to everyone that the focus should be on helping the survivors who are in need of food, water, medicines, clothes and shelter. Despite the devastation, Filipinos are heartened by the compassion and support coming from many local companies who are all stepping up to the plate, initiating their own fund drives, forsaking planned Christmas celebrations, and conducting relief operations. Major businesses are displaying corporate social responsibility (CSR) through corporate foundations, among them the Aboitiz group which initially raised P30 million. Aboitiz Equity Ventures president Jon Aboitiz told me they have a target of raising P200 million and that they are now “close to it,” realizing that there is much to be done but that we will be able to do it as a nation. Another conglomerate that has also been in the thick of relief efforts is the SM Group that has allocated P100 million in calamity funds for the rebuilding of homes, community centers and schools in disaster affected areas most particularly in Tacloban, Samar, Ormoc, Capiz, Iloilo, Cebu and Bohol that also suffered from a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. The SM Group via SM Cares is doing a fantastic job, having sent over 50,000 relief packs and Read More …

AFP confirms scheduled release of Filipino peacekeepers

By Tetch Torres-Tupas INQUIRER.net; Radyo Inquirer 2:42 pm | Friday, March 8th, 2013 MANILA, Philippines—The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirmed Friday a CNN report saying the 21 UN Filipino peacekeepers were set to be freed by the Syrian rebels on Friday. Armed Forces spokesman Colonel Arnulfo Burgos confirmed the television report when interviewed by Radio Inquirer 990AM. The soldiers, part of a 333-strong Filipino peacekeeping unit, were detained at a rebel observation point on Wednesday by gunmen who said the troops would be held until Syrian regime forces pulled back from a Golan village. “If ever they will be released within the day, they will be turned over to the International Committee of the Red Cross,” Burgos said, citing reports from their personnel in Golan Heights. He said the rebels agreed to that arrangement. A UN Disengagement Force has been monitoring a ceasefire between Syria and Israel since 1974. The United Nations has reported a growing number of incidents in the Golan over the past year. It has sent extra armored vehicles and communications equipment to reinforce security for the mission. Up to the end of February there were about 1,000 troops from Austria, Croatia, India and the Philippines operating in the ceasefire force. With Agence France-Presse
