Rachel Peters may have not won the country’s fourth Miss Universe title, but she won the hearts of Filipinos for giving her all in the most prestigious global beauty pageant held in Las Vegas.

On social media, she received a lot of support from friends and celebrities such Solenn Heussaff, Anne Curtis, Gretchen Ho, Vice Ganda, Tim Yap, Jako de Leon, Lara Alcaraz, Rachelle Ann Go and Senator Grace Poe. They commended herfor representing the country to the best of her abilities.

Rachel Peters took to Instagram to post a thank you message to the people who supported her stint in in the pageant.

In her message, the 26-year-old Filipino British beauty queen and entepreneur said: “Without a doubt my greatest achievement to date!! To be the 66th Filipina to stand on the Miss Universe stage with the most beautiful girls in the world, and to represent the most amazing country – Ang mahal kong Pilipinas! (My beloved Philippines).”

“Thank you so much to everyone who was part of this journey, I am so lucky to have every single one of you in my life. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine I would be brave enough to do something like this, but you all are the reason I got to where I am. I’m still so overwhelmed by all the love. I promise I gave my all but I’ve always been a believer in fate, destiny, and God’s perfect timing so I’m thankful for the opportunity and the memories, but I am so looking forward to seeing what God has in store for me, and to come home to the Philippines,” she said.

Now that the pageant is over, Rachel also wrote that she wants to eat sinigang when she gets home.

Her ranking in the competition marks the 8th year the country has been one of the finalists in Miss Universe since Venus Raj’s 4th runner-up win in 2010.

Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere passed on her crown wearing a stunning gown by Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco. Mittenaere looked stunning in what Cinco described as a “scarlet red ombre couture gown in full Swarovski crystals” as she handed over the title to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa during the Miss Universe 2017 coronation night in Las Vegas. In January, when Pia Wurtzbach passed on her Miss Universe crown to Mittenaere, who represented France, in the Miss Universe 2016 pageant held in Manila she wore a blue gown by Cinco. Cinco, who set up his couture label in 2003, has dressed a number of international stars including Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and country singer Carrie Underwood, Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai, and Mariah Carey. This year alone, he’s dressed crystal heiress Victoria Swarovski for her big day, as well as several royals and even his own niece.

LEGO adopts Leandro Tayag’s design for Voltron

Leandro Tayag with his LEGO creation LEGO, the popular toy building bricks for children of all ages, has adopted Pinoy fan designer Leandro Tayag’s design for Voltron: Defender of the Universe as the next Lego toy model set. Tayag, a software architect based in Malaysia, was congratulated as the next official LEGO Ideas fan designer of the world’s largest toy company in the LEGO Ideas review results. “We’re really excited to be able to introduce Leandro’s Voltron – Defender of the Universe set,” announced LEGO Ideas. “Leandro’s project sets itself apart for its creative way to build with LEGO bricks,” declared LEGO Ideas Project Manager Sanne in a video announcement. Tayag revealed in a podcast how he used over 2,100 LEGO bricks using the LEGO Designer application to create his Voltron model set, including 5 robot lions that combine to form the giant robot. It comes with 6 Pilot mini-figs and a Blazing Sword and shield. The hobbyist created the Voltron set over 3 weeks, working 2 hours a night after work. The Super Robots fan started the initial design in 2014 but put it aside then went back to it in March 2016, he shared in a LEGO Ideas interview when he was first announced as a 10k member. 1st Filipino Master Carver of Spanish Iberico Ham

Michael and Mark Lopez [via Facebook] The first Filipino master carver of the renowned Spanish Iberico ham was showcased at the recent Madrid Fusion Manila International Gastronomy Expo. Professional Maestro Cortador Michael Lopez Teves prepared thin slices of the Iberico Ham inside the Spanish stalls of the convention grounds as he talked about how an Iberian pig became a high quality ham by having the breed feed on acorn. The Madrid-based Filipino works at Cinco Jotas, an authentic Iberico Ham producer in Spain where he started as a waiter back in 2000. The Maestro Cortador there found potential in his skills and trained him as an apprentice. Teves talked to DZRH News about teaching the correct slicing technique to people who buy the Spanish ham. John Herrera named Britain’s Top Designer 2017

Filipino designer John Herrera has been named as Britain’s Top Designer (BTD) at the 5th season of the Fashion’s Finest event for emerging talent in British fashion. John Herrera [via Preview] Herrera won over five other London-based designers with his “Agila (Eagle)” collection which features Philippine history and culture – the Philippine Eagle and Filipino tribal art. The tribal art pieces included tribal tattoos from Northern Luzon. The Philippine eagle print, in homage to the proud monkey eating eagle endemic to Philippine forests, acts as a symbol for the collection. The House of Herrera Philippines presented at the BTD six show pieces created with digital dye-sublimation printing in the designer’s first work on custom made print in collaboration with EPSON Philippines.
