Landbank loans expand 16% to P280 B in 9 months

MANILA, Philippines – State-run Landbank of the Philippines has reported a 16 percent increase in its loan portfolio to P280 billion in the first nine months of 2013, from P241.9 billion a year earlier. Landbank president and CEO Gilda Pico said most of the loans were granted to priority sectors of the government. Specifically, loans to priority sectors expanded to P221.7 billion, representing 79.2 percent of the bank’s total loan portfolio. The bank’s priority sectors comprise, among others, small farmers and fisherfolks microenterprises and SMEs, agri-aqua related projects of LGUs and GOCCs, socialized to medium cost housing, and utilities.  “The consistent growth in our loan portfolio, particularly our loans to our priority sectors, is solid testament of Landbank’s aggressive support to the government’s thrust towards inclusive growth and our relentless commitment to nurture progress in the rural areas,” Pico said. As of end-September, outstanding loans to small farmers and fisherfolks reached P29.6 billion, 15 percent higher than last year. The regions with the highest loan releases to small farmers and fisherfolk are Central Luzon with P6.8 billion, Central Visayas with P4.4 billion, followed by Cagayan Valley, Southern Mindanao, and Northern Mindanao with P3.9 billion, P2.7 billion and P2.6 billion, respectively. DTI pushes higher Northern Mindanao exports to Asean

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) aims to promote growth in Northern Mindanao through increased merchandise exports from that region to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In a statement, the DTI said it wants to encourage exporters in the region to increase their merchandise shipments to Southeast Asia by informing them of trade opportunities available there. To encourage greater trade between Northern Mindanao and Southeast Asian countries, the DTI will conduct information sessions focused on the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) under the Doing Business in Free Trade Area (DBFTA) program next week in Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, and Ozamiz City. The DBFTA is a series of business information sessions to be conducted nationwide to increase exporter awareness of the country’s trade agreements. The information sessions to be held in Northern Mindanao will discuss how businesses there could increase trade with Southeast Asian countries. GMA-7 spending P75 M in Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines – Broadcast giant GMA Network Inc. is spending P75 million to further expand its presence in Northern Mindanao with the establishment of an originating station in Cagayan de Oro. GMA chairman and chief executive officer Felipe L. Gozon said in a statement that the company has so far established three originating stations in just eight months as part of efforts to beef up its presence in the provinces particularly in Mindanao. “We are also exploring the possibility of constructing another TV relay facility to further expand the reach of GMA Northern Mindanao,” Gozon said. He said the company is spending at least P75 million for its GMA Northern Mindanao expansion efforts that covers Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Occidental, Camiguin, parts of Southern Bohol, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Compostella Valley, North and South Catabato, Sultan Kudarat, Agusan del Norte and Sur, Surigao del Norte and Sur, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte The amount covers the investment for GMA Northern Mindanao’s state of the art studio, technical operation center, satellite multi-link microwave system and electronic news gathering equipment.
