Discovery Shores in Boracay Island made it to the Travel and Leisure 2017 World’s Best Awards as the only Philippine resort hotel in the Top 10 for the Asian region.

Discovery Shores Boracay Island ranked 7th among the 10 Best Resort Hotels in Southeast Asia.

The Philippine resort hotel garnered a score of 94.04 from the T&L traveler annual survey of travelers.

T&L writer John Wogan referred to the “azure waters off white-sand beaches in the Philippines” in his introduction of the Top 10 resort hotels, referring to Discovery Boracay’s White Beach location.

Discovery Shores Boracay Island was included in the list that T&L readers say as: “the best resort hotels in Southeast Asia (that) fully embrace the surrounding environment and landscapes.”

The World’s Best Resort Hotels are surveyed for their location, service, facilities, and overall value.

Discovery Shores Boracay Island’s inclusion in the 10 Best Resort Hotels in Southeast Asia was released as part of this year’s T&L list of the best 100 hotels — which include exclusive safari lodges, urban sanctuaries, and family-friendly beach resorts.

SM keeps green with 8 more solar powered Supermalls

SM has completed 3 new solar panels projects in SM City Cauayan, Cabanatuan, and Iloilo with 5 more malls to be fitted with clean energy as part of its sustainable environment initiatives. SM City Cauayan recently launched its 342-panel solar power facility SM will next complete its solar power fitting for five more solar powered malls – SM City Dasmarinas SM City Trece Martires, SM City Olongapo, SM City Tuguegarao Downtown, and SM Seaside City Cebu. SM City Cauayan launched its 342-panel solar power facility capable of producing approximately 105,678kWh annually – enough to light up 9,700 10-watt light bulbs or fully charge 26,358 cellphones. SM Mall of Asia inaugurated in 2016 a 2.7-MW solar power facility almost twice the capacity of SM City North Edsa’s1.5-MW solar rooftop installation. SM launched its first solar rooftop project in the country in 2014 at SM City North Edsa, the first mall in the Philippines to become solar powered. SM estimates that by the end of this phase, “SM will have approximately 33,000 solar panels capable of producing 8.9 megawatts of electricity – enough to fully charge around 1.3 million cellphones, light up 890,000 10-watt LED lamps, run 297,000 30-watt electric fans, or provide power to almost 6000 households.” “SM Prime has always been committed to reduce greenhouse emissions and maximize energy efficiency in our malls. PH Volcanoes beat THA capture Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy

The Philippine Volcanoes dominated the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy 2017 in Qatar, eventually winning the series with a resounding defeat of Thailand. The Globe Philippine Volcanoes celebrate their win in the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy [by Shemeer Rasheed via The Philippine Rugby Football Union] The Philippine National Rugby Team emerged champions in the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy series after winning the finals match with a score of 41-7 against the Thai nationals. Volcanoes team captain Daniel Matthews led the team with 16 points and clinched the Most Valuable Player award of the competition. "A real team effort to win this tournament. The players put in the hard yards and really played for each other. This win was for all our supporters, we appreciate all the support we have received," Matthews said in a media release of the Philippine Rugby Football Union. Despite entering the series seeded at 4th, the Philippine team bested 10 other countries in the series to take home the championship – winning the match against Nepal and Qatar on their 1st day, they continued their streak by defeating Iran on the 2 nd day, onto the semi-final battle with Singapore. Philippines soars in 2017 global economic freedom ranking

From the 70th place, the Philippines stepped up to the 58th spot in the 2017 Index of Economic Freedom as a result of economic growth and fiscal increases according to US think tank, The Heritage Foundation. Makati The group’s website cited the country’s improvement factors on economic freedom was the country’s remarkable economic expansion influenced “by the economy’s strong export performance and inflows of remittances that have bolstered private consumption.” Philippine economy stretched out by 6.8% in 2016, landing within the government’s 6% to 7% estimated growth range, making the country stay on track as one of the fastest-growing country in Southeast Asia. The Philippines has been on a steady uphill climb in the Washington think tank’s rankings. The growth continued to be essentially influenced by an outpouring in investment and consumer spending, letting the economy to undergo post rapid expansion at a period of weak global demand. The Philippine government’s pursuit to generate wide-reaching job growth was apparent on the runs of legislative reforms to augment the entrepreneurial environment and to advance the status of the private sectors, the report added.
