Rhian Ramos, KC Montero break up

KC Montero and Rhian Ramos (MNS Photo) Rhian Ramos and KC Montero have ended their relationship after almost two years of being a couple, the actress confirmed Tuesday. “If there’s such a thing as a good breakup, then I have one,” the 23-year-old TV star said, referring to her amicable split with Montero. While she did not specify when they decided to end their relationship, Ramos said it happened before typhoon “Yolanda” made landfall last November 8. Ramos is only happy to remain friends with Montero, saying they continue to regularly see each other even after the separation. “Sometimes kasi, the people that you really want to keep in your life, you just make sure they’re there… I want him to be a friend that I can have around for a lifetime,” she said. Asked if she is ready to entertain new suitors, Ramos said, “No, not really. I just want to be able to take the next bit of time to discover myself and be good to me and, wala, just grow up by myself.” (MNS)

Kathryn: I dream about Daniel most of the time

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla (MNS Photo) With all her projects, endorsements and a college education to boot, it’s surprising that “Got to Believe” star Kathryn Bernardo still finds time to sleep. But the 17-year old admitted that whenever she does get a chance to doze off, she often finds herself dreaming about her co-star and rumored boyfriend, Daniel Padilla. “Hindi ko na mataandaan ‘yung mga panaginip ko, pero oo naman. Kaso bihira lang ako managinip kasi bihira lang ako matulog. Pero I dream about him most of the time,” she said. Speaking about how Padilla shows his affection, the actress likened her on-screen partner to a baby. “Lalapit sa akin si DJ tapos sasabihin niya, ‘I need comfort.’ Tapos ako naman, ‘Aww. Halika dito,’ then I hug him. Oo, parang baby si DJ,” she added. Bernardo then called Padilla a “mama’s boy” when she was asked whether the actor was closer to his father, actor Rommel Padilla, or mother, actress Karla Estrada. “Mama’s boy. Kay Tito Rommel, makikita mo na father and son talaga ang relationship nila. Kay Tita Karla kasi, ‘pag magkasama sila makikita mo na parang mag-barkada lang sila na nagtatawanan at nagkukulitan.” Bernardo also revealed three things that Padilla can’t live without: his friends, his love for television and his car. “Pwede niyang itapon lahat, ‘wag lang TV. Favorite niya ‘yung ‘Adventure Time.’ Sabi niya, pag natutulog siya, kailangan naka-on ang TV,” she said. Referring to Padilla’s new car, a 2013 Dodge Challenger, Barnardo added, “Feeling Read More …

One Filipina’s social media activism (and how it shaped the Aug. 26 protest)

Kuwento By Boying PimentelPhilippine Daily Inquirer 3:34 pm | Saturday, August 24th, 2013 Roman Catholic priest Fr. Robert Reyes, second from left, prepares to run blindfolded along with supporters to protest the pork barrel scandal Friday in Manila. AP Peachy Rallonza Bretana’s social activism has followed a pattern: she saw something on Facebook and got really mad. That’s what happened when she came across the clip of the crying, dancing boy on Willie Revillame’s TV show two years ago. It happened again this month when she began reading the posts about some little known, somewhat obscure government program called the Priority Development Assistant Fund. “There’s not much difference in the way it started,” she told me in an email. “You see/read something on YouTube and online then you become so angry that you vent out your anger and disgust online by sharing to your friends. Both the Revillame case and this PDAF scam stemmed from the way they affected me on a personal level. “As in: Gigil na gigil ka sa galit.” Actually, there is one difference. The Revillame case, which sparked outrage so vehement it caused the show to be suspended and created a heightened awareness around the way children are treated on TV, was triggered by a clip that Peachy says was “instantly revolting.” The anger related to the pork barrel controversy, however, took a little longer to boil over. It started with a stream of news stories and blogs and the comments. Then the Commission on Audit Read More …

The ‘air war’ for votes in May 2013: Without SC TRO, 9 Senate bets, Buhay liable for breaching TV ads airtime cap

NINE SENATORIAL candidates and one party-list group in the recently concluded elections would have breached the airtime limit for political ads on TV had it not been for a crucial order from the Supreme Court regarding a new rule being imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). One of those nine candidates would have also surpassed the campaign-spending limit. Seven of the nine actually won in the May 13, 2013 midterm elections. Meanwhile, Buhay, the party-list group that eventually garnered the most number of votes among party-list groups, is poised to occupy three seats in the House of Representatives.  But that is now murky water under the bridge. Last April 16, less than a month before the elections, the Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the “aggregate time limit” rule imposed by Comelec. The TRO effectively reverted the counting of advertising minutes to the “per station” basis, just as it was in the May 2010 presidential polls.  More than the issue of counting airtime limits, however, the Supreme Court TRO made for a seemingly contradictory situation with the law on campaign expenditure limits. As well, the TRO has made the Comelec’s task of enforcing campaigning and campaign finance rules — and consequently holding violators to account – less straightforward and all the more difficult to manage. As a result, campaign spending in the 2013 polls may turn out not to be any different from the campaign-ad spending spree of 2010.  In the 2010 polls, the total indicative Read More …
