Planning your big night out for New Year’s Eve? Whether you’re hitting the streets with your friends or loved ones, nothing beats the thrill of a memorable night full of drinks, fireworks, and loud revelry.
First, some bad news for Makati residents: the New Year’s Eve Countdown and Street Party usually held along Ayala Avenue has been cancelled this year. Instead, the Makati city government is planning to donate the event’s hefty budget of PHP 30 million to the victims of Typhoon Ruby. In case you’re keeping track, last year’s New Year celebrations were also cancelled in the wake of Typhoon Yolanda.
Now, the good news: Makati’s New Year’s Eve festivities may be out, but you still have plenty of options for welcoming 2015 elsewhere around town. Here we look at some of the massive year-end countdowns planned around Metro Manila, as well as in other parts of the archipelago.
2015 Philippine Arena Countdown (Bulacan)
Sure to be one of the country’s biggest events for welcoming the New Year, the 2015 Philippine Arena Countdown will be headlined by international artist Chris Brown. Supporting acts include Bamboo, the Tempura Kidz and Brisom, along with appearances by Sam Concepcion, Enrique Gil, KZ Tandingan, and Morisette. Opened just last July and located at Bulacan’s Cuidad de Victoria, the Philippine Arena is now known as the country’s largest indoor events venue. Gates will open at 5:30pm on December 31, with ticket prices ranging between P725 and P3,605.
Quezon Memorial Circle New Year’s Eve Countdown
To commemorate the city’s 75th anniversary, the Quezon City government is working in partnership with TV5 to organize a New Year’s Eve countdown party at the iconic Quezon Memorial Circle. City officials are hoping to create a massive spectacle to rival those seen abroad, complete with a “Kapatid” talent search, live music, street party, and 20-minute fireworks display. Festivities begin at 10am.
Resorts World Manila New Year Countdown Party
Looking to brush shoulders with the stars? Head down to Resorts World Manila’s Newport Mall for their star-studded New Year Countdown Party. Expect appearances by The Dawn, Ely Buendia, Yeng Constantino, Mitoy and Draybers, Princess Velasco, and the Main Cast Band, along with a special live performance by Banda Kawayan. The party starts at 5pm in The Plaza, so be sure to come on time!
New Year’s Eve Parties in Cebu
Spending the last day of 2014 in Cebu? Many hotels in the area are hosting their own countdown parties complete with drinks, music, and good company. Take your pick from the Marco Polo Plaza, the Crown Regency, the Radisson Blu, Parklane International Hotel, Waterfront Cebu, or even the Mövenpick Hotel and Shangri-La Resort on Mactan Island. Also worth checking out are the fireworks at Mountain View Nature Park and whatever’s going on at Ayala Terraces.
New Year 2015 Countdown Parties in Davao
Celebrating New Year’s Eve down south? As any native Dabaweño will tell you, Samal Island’s annual pyrotechnics display is a must-see in a city that has tightly controlled the distribution of fireworks. The Waterfront Insular Hotel’s New Year’s Eve Party gives you a perfect view of the skies over Samal, while its theme “Fusion: An Evolution of Music Through the Ages” lets you enjoy live performances of your favorite retro music. Other places in the area holding New Year’s Eve parties include the Marco Polo, Eden Nature Park, and the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
These are only a handful of the biggest New Year’s Events happening around the country. Shopping destinations such as SM Mall of Asia and Eastwood City’s Open Park are known for their New Year’s Eve parties, so watch out for updates from them as 2014 draws to close. Many hotels, resorts, nightclubs, and other local attractions will also be sure to set up their own New Year’s Eve promotions, running the gamut from discounted dining packages to all-night musical performances. Keep your eyes peeled for other shindigs going on in your neck of the woods!
