Chinkee Tan Are you still waiting for your big break? Are you growing weary of waiting for success to come your way? Have you done everything that you can to meet your goal to become successful? There are times when we want success to happen overnight. There are moments when you feel tired of having to work every single day. It has become tiresome to wait and it is already becoming a burden. But every successful person will tell you that they did not wait for success to come. They will tell you that they worked really hard to achieve it. They worked their best to achieve their dreams of becoming successful. They sacrificed and sweated it out. They did not take any short cuts. Allow me to share with you some tips to help keep you from getting tired and losing hope from waiting: WORK TOWARDS YOUR GOAL The word “work” is a verb, an action word. This means that we need to move to action if we want to achieve success. We cannot leave it to fate and wait for it to happen. Neither can we leave it up to other people while we sit in a corner for success. Success doesn’t come that way. We also can’t just keep on brainstorming and analyzing the possibilities. Success won’t come just by talking about it, without working at it. You need to GET UP and DO something to achieve your goal. Success is like a car. You won’t get Read More …
Chinkee Tan Have you experienced a pain? Have you been hurt? How did you face it? Did you just keep the pain to yourself, as if it didn’t happen? If your answer is yes, why are you avoiding it? Why are you afraid to talk about it? The pain we feel from negative experiences is like trash, no matter how we try to hide it, its stench is going to eventually come out. If you choose to face your pain alone, there will come a time when you will break down because of the weight of the pain you bear. Keeping everything to yourself will not help you, in fact, the more it will harm you. It may even come to the point where whatever help given or solution offered to you will be of no use anymore because it is too late. So as early as now, do something about it and LET IT OUT. What should we do to properly manage the pain? ADMIT THAT YOU ARE IN PAIN Admit that you are hurt! A WOUND CAN’T BE HEALED IF ONE ACTS LIKE IT DOESN’T EXIST. Like what I’ve said, pretending like it didn’t happen will only make the burden heavier because you’re prolonging the agony in your heart. Let go of it because only as you let go will you clearly see the things that you need to do. ADMIT THAT HEALING TAKES TIME Acknowledging the pain doesn’t necessarily mean that it will immediately go away. Healing Read More …

Chinkee Tan Do you know of someone who doesn’t seem to have a conscience at all? I’m not just referring to criminals, but to those who hurt the feelings of others and don’t feel any regret or remorse. Like what, Chinkee? – You treated them well and gave in to what they want, but they still fool you. – You showed them nothing but kindness and sincerity, but when they don’t get what they want from you, they turn on you as if you’re the bad guy. – You were good to them but they still have the nerve to spread false stories about you and manipulate you. In this world that we move in, it seems like there are so many of us who have experienced these things. And oftentimes, the offender is the person we least expect to do something bad to us. Why are there people who do not have a conscience? SELF-CENTERED These people only think of themselves, and have no second thoughts for the feelings of others. Their agenda is self-satisfaction, so they will do anything just to have what they want, even if it means stepping on other people’s toes. WALANG PINAGKATANDAAN These are those who have done some bad things in their past, but were not given the hard consequences. Perhaps the people they offended before just let the offense pass, so they really didn’t learn their lesson and have no qualms about doing it over and over again. For example: – For Read More …
Chinkee Tan Are you losing your self-confidence? Do your mistakes seem like they won’t ever end? Do you feel like you have no hope in making up for past failures? I have good news for you! If you feel like you can’t do it, that’s just it – a feeling. Feelings are deceiving and it can change. Do you want to know the truth? What is truth is unchanging and it will set us free. What you may not know is that YOU CAN DO IT! It’s all in the mind. As I always say, our mind is the battleground. When you tell yourself that you can’t do this or that, then for sure you won’t be able to do it. But when you tell yourself that you can do it and you will find a way, it will surely happen. Winning should begin in our minds. We should have a ‘Winning Mindset’. I want to share two important things. CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF Failure in doing things doesn’t immediately mean you are not capable of doing better, that there is no hope. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Forgive yourself. Motivate and push yourself! God has given each one of us talents and skills. We shouldn’t depend on others for our own successes. If we make a mistake, it’s okay. Let’s learn from our mistakes, and then move on. Failure should inspire us to do better. If you don’t have confidence in yourself, how will others have confidence in you? Read More …

Corazon P. Guidote I grew up like the majority of Filipinos who mostly just stared at apples, oranges and grapes at select stores that sold them. These fruits became rare and expensive because of the long drawn import restrictions the country faced in the eighties all the way toward the turn of the 20th century. The Philippine government for a long time didn’t have the dollar reserves to support consumer imports, drained in large part by massive corruption during the Marcos era and over borrowing. A foreign debt crisis emerged that pushed our country into a stringent belt tightening program so we can pay back our creditors led by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It took a long time to solve the problem. It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears mostly from the millions of Filipinos, who up to now are still working abroad and sending money back home. Add to that the strong resolve from our smart economic managers through the decades to never default and keep paying down our debts. The tax restructuring that makes us pay among the highest taxes in the world amidst poor public service. The US dollar receipts from the now burgeoning outsourcing businesses further increased the momentum in building up our international reserves which currently stands at over US$80 billion. This is 11 times the level of our monthly importations and much more than sufficient for our foreign debt service requirements. We have even become a net lender to the IMF. Read More …
Chinkee Tan Do you know of someone who is a “professional whiner”? “What is that?” “Why does it have to be like that?” Why just this much?” “Isn’t there anything else?” People who always complain are extremely UNGRATEFUL. They are difficult to please. They cannot even please themselves. It is normal to be disappointed when things don’t happen as we want them to. But one thing I that can’t stand, are people who love to whine, who complain. They feel that every time they log in a complaint, they are doing humanity a favor. The truth is, they are not even aware that their constant complaining has negative effects. One of the negative effects of complaining is that . . . THE SITUATION JUST GETS WORSE For example, when you get an NSO certificate, you get there to find a very long queue. Because you are a certified whiner, you can’t keep yourself from spewing out a litany of complaints starting with the long queue! But wait, there’s more! Because you are a veteran at this, you are also an EXPERT in looking for other things to whine about. “There should be a number system so that we can just leave our spaces. This waiting in line and moving forward like snails is silly!” Then you’d even look around for a sympathizer, “am I right?” Another negative effect of being a constant whiner is… THE BLESSINGS BECOME DISTANT If your food is just smoked fish, isn’t it still a blessing? Chinkee Tan “I know fear is an obstacle for some people, but it’s an illusion to me.” — Michael Jordan Everyone knows Michael Jordan. In the world of basketball, he is a living legend, a history maker. Who wouldn’t be amazed at his unique basketball skills, but I particularly admire his courage. It is no joke to train to be as good as MJ. There are no shortcuts to the training, discipline and exercise he does every single day. He sacrificed a lot to get to the peak of success, and be the legend that he is today. But more important is the key to his success, and that’s his ability to face his fears. I can imagine that if he didn’t face his fears early on, then there wouldn’t be any ‘Michael Jordan’ today. Fear can be self-fulfilling. Sometimes the only thing holding you back from being successful is the fear of failure. We tend to create our own ghosts – things that we fear but don’t even exist or haven’t even happened yet. When we let go of our fears, we’re free to be more aggressive and to take full advantage of opportunities that come our way. But the question is how can we overcome our fears? Here are some of my suggestions: IDENTIFY Identify what you are afraid of. List down all your fears. After you have done this… Identify the root cause of these things that you are afraid of. What are the reasons for being Read More …
Chinkee Tan I’m sure that at one point or another, we have experienced rejection in our life. Have you experienced being eased into the “friend zone”? (Ouch!) Have you experienced being rejected by your friends when you offered to sell them your wonderful product? (No sense of gratitude!) Have you experienced being given the cold shoulder when you were trying to propose a bright idea? (You hurt my feelings!) Even your social media accounts aren’t immune to rejections, especially when you get “unfriended” or your posts were “unliked” Rejection is inevitable; it is really a part of life. We got to learn how to live with or it will destroy us. Just like what Miss Columbia said, “Everything happens for a reason.” That’s right! How? I believe rejection exists because… IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO LEARN Maybe you didn’t do something right. Maybe it just wasn’t the right time. Maybe they don’t need it at this time. Maybe they just don’t see the benefits yet. Maybe our ideas are good, but we need to always be OBJECTIVE especially in receiving comments about them. Sometimes we get too focused on the details that we miss the whole picture. Aside from that . . . IT MAKES YOU STRONGER Don’t lose heart, but instead use this rejection to challenge you to PROVE to yourself that you are capable of accomplishing something. Just think back to the time before you were rejected. You were not too scared and settled for mediocre. Read More …
Chinkee Tan As an OFW, you sacrifice a lot just to earn more money. As a businessman, you risk a lot of things just so you can earn more money. Why is it so difficult to earn money? What makes it even worse is that it took you years to earn it, but only minutes to spend it. Earning money even beats a one-week love affair in disintegrating. What we earn just passed through our hand like the wind. A lot of times, it still isn’t even enough to survive. We don’t want to live this life just for the purpose of earning money. So what can we do so that we don’t feel the heavy burden of earning money? DON’T FOCUS ON MONEY You read it right! We should not only be thinking of money. Don’t make money the motivation for working hard. Why? Because when it is gone, so is your desire and joy. Admit it, after payday we feel like a withered leaf, lifeless because we don’t have any more money. Focus on the reason behind why we earn rather on how much we earn. LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING Love your work and it will love you back. If we are doing our jobs just for the sake of money, you will really have a hard time. You are gonna end up just like a robot, an arcade machine or a battery-operated toy. If we enjoy what we do, we will find fulfillment in it no Read More …
