Audi looks to play it safe with new TT

The all-new Audi TT and 310PS TTS CoupéThe lines are sharper but the car is actually smaller than the second-generation model.©Audi (Relaxnews) – Officially unveiled at Geneva on Tuesday morning, the third generation coupé is, visually at least, a gentle evolution of the outgoing model; however, there are huge changes under the skin. That’s not to say the new car looks identical; it’s more angular and masculine especially at the front where the grille is very similar in design to the one found on the range-topping R8 supercar. Yet it’s still unmistakably a TT. The all-new Audi TT and 310PS TTS CoupéThe new car gets a new, more masculine grille.©Audi Perhaps the cleverest trick is that Audi has managed to increase the car’s wheelbase — so that there’s more interior space, yet has somehow managed to make the car itself smaller — it’s 20mm shorter and 8mm slimmer. And, thanks to an aluminum chassis, it’s 50kg lighter too. As well as more interior space, the new car comes with more power — thanks to an improved range of three four-cylinder engines offering outputs of up to 310PS, a 2-liter turbodiesel unit and for the range-topping TTS model, permanent Quattro all-wheel-drive. The all-new Audi TT and 310PS TTS Coupé – interiorThe TT is the first production Audi to feature a virtual cockpit.©Audi Inside, the TT is the first Audi car to get the company’s much-hyped virtual cockpit, whereby all main control switches and multimedia functions are combined in a single digital Read More …

The rape of Pepsi Paloma

We were eating lunch at a Daly City home and watching “Eat Bulaga!”, the popular noontime variety show on GMA TV, when someone commented that he read on Facebook that two of the show’s hosts, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon, were involved in the gang rape of a young Filipino American actress named Pepsi Paloma in 1982. The Eraserheads PHOTO/PHILIPPINE DAILY INQUIRER Three young Filipino kids, all recent immigrants, joined in the conversation and said that they also heard of the Pepsi Paloma rape case. I expressed surprise because it occurred long before any of them were born. They explained that they learned of the rape from the song “Spolarium” composed and performed by the Eraserheads, their favorite Filipino rock band. When I Googled the lyrics of “Spolarium” by the Eraserheads, I found these words: at ngayon di pa rin alam kung ba’t tayo nandito pwede bang itigil muna ang pagikot ng mundo   umiyak ang umaga anong sinulat ni enteng at joey dyan sa gintong salamin di ko na mabasa pagkat merong nagbura ahhh… (And we still don’t know why we’re here, please stop the turning of the world, the morning cried, what did enteng and joey write in the golden mirror I couldn’t read because someone erased it). Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III. INQUIRER file photo According to these diehard fans of the Eraserheads, “enteng” is  Vic Sotto and “joey” is Joey de Leon and the something that was erased was their criminal record. The new car experience

Two Fridays ago, I picked up the first brand new car that I have ever personally bought in 18 years. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, but it is no weirder than a pilot saying that it’s the first time he has ever bought an airline ticket. In our line of work, there’s just no need to. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. To be honest, I was worried that after so many years having all these incredible test drives delivered to my house, I have become desensitized. But when the moment arrived, nothing could have been further from the truth. Like a love-sick teenager, I even stayed up that night staring at my new ride through the dining room window and wrote a mushy blog about the whole experience. Seriously. Like I don’t have enough deadlines already. If you want to hear what the 9-year old version of me sounds like in 600 words, just go to my website. Quick, before I gather my composure and pull it down. In a perfect world, everyone would experience the joy of owning a brand new car at least once in their life. But no world is perfect––we live in the perfect example of that. But while not everyone may get to experience the joy of driving out of a dealership with the plastic still on the seats and visors, wondering what is a reasonable time frame to leave them on, I just recently stumbled across the next best Read More …

In an interview, Anderson believes his love scenes with Panganiban will not be an issue for his girlfriend, actress Maja Salvador. “Ako before nung nagkaroon ako ng relationship I was an actor, so I’m just doing my job. Instead, Anderson said he is happy to have the chance to work with Panganiban, who is among the prized talents of ABS-CBN of this generation. “I’m just very blessed na pinili ako [ng Star Cinema]. I have a director that I’m very comfortable with, and may new leading lady,” he said. While they have no qualms about being intimate on screen, both Anderson and Panganiban admitted being only acquainted through their respective real-life partners, who were previously film co-stars. Anderson said he is looking forward to learning from the 27-year-old Panganiban, whose career as an actress spans over two decades. “First time ko rin makakasama si Angelica, at tama si Direk (Ruel Bayani), si Angelica, wala siyang hindi kayang gawin. I would love to learn from her,” he added. (MNS)
