Tips on empowering franchisees for growth

Armando Bartolome Marketing training will help franchisees succeed and at the same time, grow the franchise. The right marketing skills is at the core of every business. That is why franchisors should be able to provide the right training. When you thought of having your business franchised, have you also thought that more than accepting their payment, you have an obligation to help them market your brand? Before you even try to take that step, allow yourself, as franchisors, to become fully aware on how you can expand the business. There are workshops on how to recruit more franchisees, spending right, improving franchise marketing skills, and tapping social media to recruit more franchisees and grow sales. Once you are able to figure out all of these, you may be able to start training for your new franchisees and focus on how you can help them succeed in the business. Involve a third party expert for training. Never expect that your franchisees are experts in the field of marketing. Some may have just wanted to start with the business and carefully learn from it with your help. You may also want to hire a third party expert to train your own team that can eventually be the people to train future franchisees. This may mean added cost to the franchisor, but this will make franchisees feel important. Encourage old franchisees to talk to new franchisees. They can help boost the confidence of the new franchisees by sharing their experiences. Always encourage all your Read More …

Maria-Thomeczek and Jake Verzosa [via DFA] Versoza’s photographs in the “The Last Tatooed Women of Kalinga,” depicting the dying culture of tattooing or ‘pagbabatok’ among Kalinga women is one of the 8 photobooks chosen by the renowned German designer and publisher Gerhard Steidl from entries by Asian photographers. “The main purpose of doing this was to document the last remaining people who adorn these tattoos and to hopefully reverse the changing perception of beauty among the Kalinga. The tattoos used to be a symbol of beauty, wealth, and honor but now, most see them as ancient, barbaric, and a stigma,” Versoza said in a report from the Philippine Embassy in Berlin. The Last Tattooed Women of Kalinga will be featured along with the other chosen works in a box set titled “8 Books for Asia”. “Naked arms in pictures of aged tattooed skin taken in the Philippines. Jake Verzosa’s digital black-and- white prints… showed women whose skin seemed to be patterned as if by a lacy sweater… It’s at one hand historical and on the other a sort of poetry unfolding as a record for posterity,” said Vogue International editor Suzy Menkes, lauding this particular series at Paris Photo 2014. Versoza and the award winners will also travel to Göttingen, Germany to make their books together with Art Director Steidl and Theseus Chan. Read More …

Linda Atayde: Lessons Learned from an Unexpected Journey

“Thank God, she got in touch with me!” Those were the words uttered by Linda as she expressed her joy on the day SM Foundation turned over a new two-storey, four classroom building to the Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School in Baguio City late last year. It’s been almost 15 years now since Carmen Linda Atayde was invited by SM Investments Corporation’s Vice-Chairman, Ms. Tessie Sy-Coson, to join SM Foundation as Executive Director for Education Programs. “Tatang always believed that education was the best defense against poverty,” shared Linda. “He always said that if we could just help one child finish college, he or she then can uplift their family out of poverty.” SM Foundation gives college and technical-vocational scholarship grants to deserving but underprivileged youth. It also helps provide access to quality public education by building and donating fully-furnished public school buildings. Linda recalled, “Even then, Mrs. Coson knew that I filled my weekends and free time doing work for the community. I already had scholars of my own then.” At that time, Linda felt that she wasn’t ready to assume the post. But little by little, she realized that heading the education program of SM Foundation was simply like being a second mother to the thousands of youth who have hopes and dreams yet to be fulfilled. “I simply knew it was another path I had to take,” declared Linda with much conviction.
