Making money is always harder than saving. This age old bit of wisdom has allowed me to make more money consistently over the last few years. It might sound “simplistic” but if you do it consistently it has a big effect that will surprise you at the end of the year. The tactic is simple: Make a list of consumable items you regularly use like soap, toothpaste, deodorant, or shampoo. Buy them in bulk during major flash sales (like 20-50% off or buy-one-take-one deals) on Lazada, S&R, Watson’s or even SM Department Store. That’s it. This is real money that you get to “put back” into your pocket because you would have spent on these items at higher prices (SRP) anyway. The savings can be massive if you’re able to do this consistently across a wide range of daily consumables. Apart from shampoo, there’s toothpaste, soap, mouthwash, napkins, deodorant, toilet paper, cooking oil, canned goods, coffee, and even softdrinks (though I would suggest you stop drinking soda for health purposes). All of those taken together will make a big positive impact on your cash flow. More importantly doing this develops money mental discipline. You will be more cautious of your how you spend and this will ultimately help keep building your wealth so that you break away from “petsa de peligro”. This is pretty timely as there are a lot of upcoming sales. The most notable online sale is the Lazada 12.12 Christmas sale where you have a lot of Read More …
Image via ABS-CBN Locals and tourists alike of El Nido, Palawan were treated to a feast of lights as Lio Tourism Estate lit its Christmas Tree for the first time. What was unique about this particular light show, however, was that the Christmas tree, designed by architect Ian Fontecha, is made entirely out of bamboo, and then mounted with LED lights and fiberglass. “It’s a new beginning for El Nido, the tourism estate,” Joey Bernardino, group director of sales and marketing of El Nido Resorts and Lio Estate Resorts, told ABS-CBNNews.com. Bossa Nova Queen Sitti serenaded the guests during the lighting ceremony, followed by performances from Maureen Schrijvers, the Sibaltan Choir, and the Sibaltan Heritage Cultural Dancers. Bernardino says Lio Tourism Estate’s Christmas tree was “inspired by the sustainability and ecotourism principles of the estate.” “El Nido has always been known for luxury. We came up with bed and breakfast resorts so more people will be able to try El Nido. Everyone should have a chance to experience El Nido on the level were you see its beauty,” he says.
Christmas is the perfect time to make wonderful memories with family and friends. It’s a good thing Filipinos know how to celebrate this special holiday, so you don’t have to go far to find “Instagrammable” and selfie-worthy spots. Here are GNP’s Top 5 destinations for Christmas within Metro Manila. Greenhills Christmas Village Photo Via Lemon Green Tea This is a classic. As kids, many of us were brought to Greenhills by our parents, and it is just as charming now as it was back then. This year the display is a brightly lit, miniature, snow-covered village featuring a chocolate factory, a ginger bread house, Santa’s Workshop, Mrs Claus’ Daycare and a North Pole Office. Located inside V-Mall, the dazzling setup can immediately transport both children and adults to winter wonderland. Activities include a meet-and-greet with Santa, the Mrs. Claus Bazaar and a night market. It will run until January 7, 2018. Ayala Triangle Gardens’ Festival of Lights Photo via Wikimedia Commons Year after year, Makati continues to amaze us with Ayala Triangle Gardens’ Festival of Lights. This season, it features a giant haze machine and three 20-watt animation lasers that turn the garden into a magical paradise. The show runs every 30 minutes from 6PM to 10PM. Image via Google The Bureau of Treasury had to cut short its sale of five-year fixed-rate Retail Treasury bonds (RTB) two days ahead of its original deadline, because of stronger-than-expected demand from investors. In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, National Treasurer Rosalia De Leon said the RTBs were “very well subscribed,” with the government surpassing its P200-billion mark earlier than expected. “We still don’t know (the total amount). But we’re over P200 billion. It’s very huge already. We’re cutting it short,” she said. Because of this, the offering period was cut to November 27th, two days ahead of the original planned date of Nov. 29. At the price-setting auction for the RTBs , which are set to mature by 2022, the Treasury already raised around P130 billion at a coupon rate of 4.625 percent. Total offers hit P191.81 billion, which was more than six times the initial P30 billion offering, prompting the Treasury to expand its offering to accommodate the surge of demand. The Treasury had previously said the funds raised from the RTB offering would be used for the government’s programs and projects for 2018.
Image via Philippine Daily Inquirer At least 500 Marawi families displaced by the recent conflict against ISIS militants will have a place to call home this Christmas. A report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer says the government has committed to finishing 500 temporary shelters for residents affected by the fighting between government soldiers and Islamic State-inspired terrorists in Marawi. Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque promised the completion of the temporary shelters by the second week of December, which were part of the 1,200 homes that the Housing Authority and the Department of Public Works and Highways are currently building in Barangay Sagongsongan. The homes will be given to families whose houses were burned or destroyed during the fighting, either by terrorists or by the airstrikes of the military to flush out the militants. The 500 homes that are targeted to be completed before Christmas will be joined by at least 1,170 temporary houses by the first quarter of 2018. The remaining 30 will be finished after that schedule. The government will also allow residents whose homes or property have been damaged during hte fighting to put up new structures as long they could show land titles. The fighting between the government and the Maute group, lasted for five months and destroyed much of the City of Marawi, and displaced thousands of families fleeing from the fighting. The conflict ended on October 17, a day after the deaths of militant leaders Omar Maute and Isnilon Hapilon to government forces.
The Philippine government is partnering with Facebook to provide faster internet via the Luzon Bypass Infrastructure (LBI) project, effectively making it a third major player in the telecoms industry.
