Young Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala has so far won 4 doubles titles in 4 Young Stars Tournaments in Europe, placing the Philippine flag among champions in the tour.

The 12-year old tennis phenomenon won her doubles titles together with her Indonesian partner in the Under-14 touring team of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) – Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) competing in 5 tournaments in 4 countries in Europe.

Fresh from her winning the championship at the 14 and Under Girls in the Sutama International Junior ATF Tournament in Japan, Eala went to Europe in mid-July and quickly picked up her first doubles title with Priska Madelyn Nugroho after defeating the Italian team 6-2, 6-4, in the finals of the Open des Jeune organized by the Stade Francais Club in Paris, France – the kick off tournament.

The top-seeded girl tennis player at the ATF won her next doubles title at the Windmill Cup in Velp, Netherlands after beating the Egyptian- Moroccan team, 7-5, 6-1. Eala also won the Championship Match of the Finals Consolation Rounds in the tennis singles.

The ATF team claimed its 3rd straight doubles title when it went back to France’s La Balle Mimosa Loire-Atlantique in Nantes, dominating the Peruvian team, 6-3, 6-1 in the finals.

Eala and her partner clinched their 4th doubles title at the Internationale Deutsche Tennismeisterschaften in Duren, Germany, posting a 4-6, 6-4, (10-5) victory over South Koreans.

Eala’s winning streak was announced on the Philippine News Agency site.

The young Filipina netter’s Facebook fan page is updated with her wins and performance in tournaments.

Eala is currently gunning for her 5th doubles titles in Belgium.

Sarah Lahbati is now engaged to Richard Gutierrez

Sarah Lahbati (MNS photo) Four years after giving birth to her first born, Sarah Lahbati is ready for another commitment. This time, to become wife to one of the the country’s most eligible bachelors, Richard Gutierrez. Lahbati and Gutierrez night announced on their Instagram accounts that they are finally tying the knot. “The stars aligned in the universe and this happened. I’m marrying my best friend,” Lahbati said in an Instagram post wherein she shared a snapshot of their engagement. Gutierrez, meanwhile, shared a close-up photo featuring a clearer view of the diamond ring he gave to Lahbati. “I love you and I can’t wait to start this new chapter of our lives together,” he wrote. The couple, who have been together for five years, got engaged in Switzerland. It was the same place where Lahbati took refuge when she was hiding her pregnancy in 2012, eventually giving birth to baby Zion. Lahbati said she wants to exchange “I do’s” in Europe and have her honeymoon in Costa Rica’s Cocos Island. Lahbati joined ABS-CBN in 2015. Gutierrez followed her and officially became a Kapamilya through the primetime series “La Luna Sangre.” (MNS)

First Jollibee in Europe to open in Italy

Jollibee Foods Corp (JFC) signed a deal with Singaporean company BlackBird Holdings to operate the first Jollibee store in Italy, the first store in Europe for the popular Filipino food chain. JFC Group president Jose Miñana Jr. said in media reports that the company would start in Italy where there are many Filipinos to mark its foray in Europe. “We’re looking at possibly Italy to be our (starting point) in Europe. We’re not in Europe yet. We will follow where the Pinoys are,” he said, adding that the company’s target Europe debut is between 2017 and 2018. BlackBird will own 25 percent of the proposed joint venture while the Jollibee group will own 75 percent through its international unit Golden Plate. The two companies have agreed to invest one million euros, of which up to 750 thousand euros will be contributed by Golden Plate, in proportion to its ownership in the business. Jollibee Foods Corporations strategy is to make a territorial franchise like in the Philippines, for Italy with the ability to develop and expand the brand in the market.
