Young Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala has so far won 4 doubles titles in 4 Young Stars Tournaments in Europe, placing the Philippine flag among champions in the tour.

The 12-year old tennis phenomenon won her doubles titles together with her Indonesian partner in the Under-14 touring team of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) – Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) competing in 5 tournaments in 4 countries in Europe.

Fresh from her winning the championship at the 14 and Under Girls in the Sutama International Junior ATF Tournament in Japan, Eala went to Europe in mid-July and quickly picked up her first doubles title with Priska Madelyn Nugroho after defeating the Italian team 6-2, 6-4, in the finals of the Open des Jeune organized by the Stade Francais Club in Paris, France – the kick off tournament.

The top-seeded girl tennis player at the ATF won her next doubles title at the Windmill Cup in Velp, Netherlands after beating the Egyptian- Moroccan team, 7-5, 6-1. Eala also won the Championship Match of the Finals Consolation Rounds in the tennis singles.

The ATF team claimed its 3rd straight doubles title when it went back to France’s La Balle Mimosa Loire-Atlantique in Nantes, dominating the Peruvian team, 6-3, 6-1 in the finals.

Eala and her partner clinched their 4th doubles title at the Internationale Deutsche Tennismeisterschaften in Duren, Germany, posting a 4-6, 6-4, (10-5) victory over South Koreans.

Eala’s winning streak was announced on the Philippine News Agency site.

The young Filipina netter’s Facebook fan page is updated with her wins and performance in tournaments.

Eala is currently gunning for her 5th doubles titles in Belgium.

Koronadal City breaks 2 Guinness World Records

Koronadal City in South Cotabato has made two new Guinness World Records as part of their effort to promote motorcycle road safety. [via Facebook] Koronadal made the new record for Most Engines Started Simultaneously with 3,184 people and motorbikes. The same event scored the 2 nd world record for Most Motorcycle Horns Sounded Simultaneously done by 3,177 people. The two new Guinness records for the Philippines were attempted on April 29, 2017 with a total of 3,336 motorcycle riders converged along a stretch of the main highway. The event was led by Koronadal City Mayor Peter Miguel, LGU-City of Koronadal, Petron, National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs, Inc. and South Cotabato Motorcycle Club. Ben Backhouse, head of records management for Asia Pacific of Guinness World Records, confirmed the approval of the new titles in an email to Mayor Miguel: “We are thrilled to inform you that your application for most engines started simultaneously has been successful and you are now the Guinness World Records title holder!…Your second record attempt (most motorcycle horns sounded simultaneously) has been approved as well. Congratulations on an amazing event, you are officially amazing.” “At this point I would like to say it’s been a pleasure working with you and I wish you the best of luck with any future record attempts,” Backhouse added. July inflation slows down to near 4-year low

MANILA, Philippines – Prices of goods and services decelerated to a near four-year low with inflation settling at 2.5 percent in July, the National Statistics Office (NSO) reported on Tuesday. Inflation in July was slower than the previous month’s 2.7 percent, and the slowest since the 2.3 percent recorded in September 2009.  Year-to-date, inflation settled at 2.9 percent, lower than the central bank’s 3-5-percent target for 2013. Inflation a year ago was at 3.2 percent. “The indices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; recreation and culture; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services recorded slower annual increases during the month,” NSO said. Inflation within the National Capital region dropped to 1 percent from June’s 1.6 percent while other areas similarly slowed down to 2.9 percent from 3 percent. Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said the slow uptick in prices was driven by lower inflation among food items.
