More than two weeks after alleged P10-billion pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles was brought to Ospital ng Makati, there is still no definite date yet when she will undergo surgery for her cyst in the uterus.

Lawyer Bruce Rivera, Napoles’ counsel, said the doctors have yet to discuss with the patient the result of the biopsy conducted on her last April 8. The result was supposed to be released three days after the procedure was done.

“No date (on the surgery) as of yet. Mayroon na raw na resulta pero hindi pa alam ni Mrs. Napoles, hindi pa siya nakakausap ng duktor. Yung mga duktor hindi pa pwedeng magsalita hanggang hindi pa nila nakakausap si Mrs. Napoles. After Holy Week na siguro magkakaroon ng conference on that,” Rivera said in a phone interview with GMA News Online.

Napoles, according to doctors, has myoma uteri. She has complained of profuse vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain since late last year.

Dr. Perry Ishmael Peralta, Ospital ng Makati medical director, earlier said the result of the endometrial biopsy would show if the cyst is benign or malignant. The next procedure to be done on Napoles will depend on the result of the biopsy.

“Malalaman yung extent ng surgery based on the result of the biopsy. More extensive ang gagawin kung lumabas na cancerous yung cyst,” he told reporters earlier.

Napoles has been confined at Ospital ng Makati since March 31 after the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 granted her appeal to be confined in a hospital and undergo surgery.

Judge Elmo Alameda has also allowed private doctors to attend to the medical needs of Napoles.

He stressed that Napoles’ period of confinement at the Ospital ng Makati shall cover only the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative procedures.

He also directed Peralta to submit a progress report to the court and prosecutors on the medical condition of Napoles immediately after the operation, “to deter any prolonged confinement.”

Court allows Napoles to undergo medical checkup

Detained businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged mastermind in the P10-billion pork barrel scam, will undergo transvaginal ultrasound and other medical tests on Wednesday, February 26, a Makati court said Monday. Judge Elmo Alameda of Makati Regional Trial Court branch 150 allowed Napoles’ request for a comprehensive medical examination to check a cyst on her ovary. The judge ordered the Philippine National Police regional office 4-A, which has custody over Napoles, to transfer her from her detention cell in Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna to Camp Crame General Hospital Quezon City. Napoles earlier requested the court that she undergo a comprehensive gynecological test, a transvaginal ultrasound examination, a comprehensive medical checkup, as well as to be admitted to a reputable hospital. She initially wanted to have the checkup at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, but her lawyer and the government prosecutors agreed during the hearing on Monday to have it at Camp Crame hospital. Napoles has been in detention since August last year over a serious illegal detention case filed by her former employee Benhur Luy, a whistleblower in the pork barrel scam case. She is also facing plunder complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the scam and the alleged misuse of Malampaya funds. Secretary to the Cabinet Jose Rene Almendras talks with fugitive businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, alleged brains behind the P10-billion pork barrel scam, husband Jimmy and lawyer Atty. Lorna Kapunan at the President’s Hall Receiving Area of the Malacañan Palace last August 28. Kapunan has quit for still unknown reasons. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Lawyer Lorna Kapunan on Wednesday withdrew as lead defense counsel in the serious illegal detention case filed against businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, citing “differences in opinion.” Secretary of Justice Leila de Lima confirmed Kapunan’s withdrawal but said she did not know why. “It’s a matter between her (Kapunan) and her client,” De Lima said. Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 clerk of court Diosfa Valencia said Kapunan had not yet submitted her motion to withdraw as defense counsel of Napoles and her co-accused and brother Reynald Lim in their serious illegal detention case. “Depende na sa kanya kung maghire s’ya ng replacement or contented na s’ya with Attorney Villamor [It depends on her if she decides to hire a replacement or she’s already contented with Attorney Villamor],” Valencia said referring to Napoles. Villamor is the collaborating counsel of Kapunan and has been a long time counsel of the Napoleses. Before the confirmation, speculation was already rife that Kapunan had left the case after her sudden departure with her team of around five lawyers after showing up briefly at Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 around 9 a.m. Wednesday, before the scheduled hearing of Napoles’ bail petition on the Read More …
