Rain clouds over much of the Visayas, Mindanao and Bicol. “Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao region will experience moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,” PAGASA said in its 5:00 p.m. weather bulletin Saturday. PAGASA added that “Palawan, Bicol region and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.” PAGASA

Residents in parts of Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao were advised before noon Sunday to brace for possible flash floods and landslides as a potential cyclone moved near Cebu.

State weather forecasters said the potential cyclone, a low-pressure area, was estimated in the vicinity of Mactan, Cebu as of 8 a.m.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said the LPA is embedded along the inter-tropical convergence zone.

“These weather systems are expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms in Palawan, Visayas and regions of Zamboanga Peninsula Northern Mindanao, ARMM and SOCCSKSARGEN which may trigger flash floods and landslides,” it said.

“Residents in these areas are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures,” it added.

Earlier, PAGASA forecaster Joey Figuracion said the LPA has a low chance of becoming a cyclone. But if it does, it will be codenamed Kiko. — LBG, GMA News

PAGASA: Monsoon rain over parts of the PHL, high tide may cause flooding

The southwest monsoon and the inter-tropical convergence zone may bring rain to parts of northern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao Monday, state weather forecasters said. PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza also said the high tide may cause water levels to rise as it may go as high as 1.46 meters for the day. “Ang 1.46 meters, medyo mataas na yan,” he said in an interview on dzBB radio. PAGASA’s 5 a.m. bulletin said the high tide would reach its peak at 9:53 a.m. Earlier Monday, local governments in Malabon City and in Obando, Bulacan had suspended classes for the day in anticipation of floods brought by the high tide. Monsoon rain PAGASA’s 5 a.m. bulletin said the weak southwest monsoon was affecting the western sections of northern Luzon while the inter-tropical convergence zone was affecting Southern Mindanao. “The regions of Ilocos, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Western and Central Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula and SOCCSKSARGEN will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms,” it said. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be “partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.” Moderate to strong winds from the southwest to south will prevail over the western section of Northern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Fertilizer prices fall in May

MANILA, Philippines – The average dealers’ price of four fertilizer grades fell month-on-month and year-on-year in May, the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) reported. Data released by BAS late Friday showed that this was caused by the reduction of prices in most regions. The monthly average dealers’ price of Urea in May was placed at P1,194.51 per sack, down 0.54 percent  from the previous month’s price level and 8.68 percent from the price in the same period last year. In most regions, Urea prices were lower than the previous month’s levels.  The biggest price cuts were recorded in Zamboanga Peninsula and SOCCSKSARGEN with respective price reductions of 3.54 percent and 3.22 percent. Urea prices in Davao Region and ARMM remained at the previous month’s price levels. The average dealers’ price of Complete in May was P1,238.16 per sack.  Prices slid by 0.21 percentand 2.56 percent month-on-month and year-on-year respectively.
