Money isn't everything but it sure means something. Having money simply means that you can afford to buy what others can’t. You can enjoy travelling to places you’ve never been before. While your newfound freedom allows you to experience new pleasures, remember that there is a responsibility in your new found success. NEVER FORGET THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED YOU WHEN YOU WERE STARTING No matter how successful and rich you are, remember the people who believed in you and helped you when you were just starting. I’m really so thankful of the following people who believed in me and helped me. Meron nga tayong kasabihan, “Ang taong hindi marunong lumingon sa kanyang pinanggalingan ay may stiff neck.” NEVER EVER GAMBLE Gambling is a game of chance. You do not want to bet your future on chance. Success doesn't happen by chance, it is achieved based on the daily choices we make. If you think you are going to make easy and quick money through gambling, you are just cheating yourself. The odds are always against you. Because the banker always wins. Give me one casino that closed because they lost money. Did you know that the former NBA star Charles Barkley once admitted that he lost $2.5 million in six hours by gambling? Never even entertain the idea of trying it just for fun. Because gambling is addictive. Once you are hooked it is just like drugs, you will have a hard time kicking off the bad habit. I have been selling products on eBay and making money at it. I would like to upload more of our inventory to eBay but it is very time consuming to upload one at a time and then even more so to keep it updated. If I sell something on eBay but I am actually sold out, I have to cancel the order and that sometimes results in negative feedback and eBay lowers my DSR. Does that sound like you?

Asia Society has named two Filipinos as part of the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit Class of 2017 to be held in Australia late this year. Cherrie Atalino and Eleanor Pinugu Agricultural Systems International Inc. (AGREA) founder and president/CEO Cherrie Atilano and Mano Amiga Academy founder Eleanor Rosa Pinugu will represent the Philippines in the Asia 21 core group of accomplished young leaders representing multiple countries and a wide range of fields to explore and propose positive actions to critical issues facing the Asia-Pacific region. Atilano and Pinugu were included in the 30-member Asia 21 Class of 2017 for being “change-makers, visionaries, and leaders in their own fields that have made significant contributions to society.” Atilano’s AGREA is an agro-social enterprise with a mission to help farming and fishing families in Marinduque island by bringing together local businesses, academia, communities and local and national governments and international partners towards its vision of “Ecology of Dignity,” with a vision to help eradicate poverty and help establish food security in the Philippines while helping alleviate effects of climate change. University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) researchers have developed the first bio technology crop in the Philippines, the Bt Talong (Eggplant). The bio tech eggplant is resistant against its chronic pest, the eggplant fruit and shoot borer (EFSB) which damages the regular eggplant and reportedly normally results to nearly 80% of yield loss especially during high incidence of infestation. The newly developed crop is seen as an important source of income for small farmers which accounts for more than 30% of the volume of vegetable production, according to the SEARCA report about the Institute of Plant Breeding at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (IPB-UPLB) project. The pest’s gut, similar to that of the corn borer, is affected by the toxin produced by the cry1a gene. Bt talong uses the gene from the soil borne bacteria Bacillus thuringensis to control EFSB, similar to the first commercialized biotech corn. Bt talong varieties developed by IPB-UPLB contained a transformation event developed by Mahyco in India and introgressed into local open-pollinated varieties through backcrossing. The biotech eggplant is the first public-sector initiated research and the first biotech food crop developed in the Philippines. With the field trials of Bt talong already completed, confirming the efficacy of the technology against the fruit and shoot borer and its safety towards beneficial and non-target insects is the next step. Farmers are set to gain from the adoption of Bt talong with significant reduction in yield loss, lesser use of pesticides, and increased income. Consumers are expected to benefit from pesticide-free eggplants that will be Read More …

If there is one thing I am grateful for, it’s my ability to see the beauty that life can offer instead of being disheartened by the obstacles that come my way. Thomas A. Edison once said, “I never did a day's work in my life. It was all fun.” In any kind of business, we will all inevitably come across failure. We will sometimes be disappointed with the results of our efforts. But we need to realize that we can only do so much—that even with a seemingly perfect plan, things could go wrong halfway through the process. So how do we deal with it? As a business mentor, I have met many that inspired me to continue my advocacy of helping Filipinos elevate their status by engaging in businesses, no matter how small. Some of them almost gave up after struggling with the businesses they started. I asked these disheartened entrepreneurs: “What do you think is causing your business to fail?” I was surprised with their reply. I was expecting them to tell me that they didn't know enough about the business they entered. But the reason was: they lacked faith in themselves and had doubts that they could make the business work. When I asked them why, they replied that each struggle with the business seemed to be pulling them down deeper. When a person has a positive attitude in life, trials and tribulations become a “gold mine of learning.” We never really know how much further we Read More …
