Nearly six months after super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) devastated the Visayas area, the death toll continued to rise and reached 6,300 as of Thursday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said seven more, all from Tacloban City, were added to the list of fatalities.

“Seven people in Tacloban City were added to the list… to which the total of dead individuals increased to 6,300,” it said in its update.

It also said 1,061 remain missing while 28,689 were injured.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said the damage to property caused by Yolanda now stands at P89,598,068,634.88.

A breakdown of the damage includes:

– Infrastructure: P9,584,596,305.69
– Productive: P21,833,622,975.09
– Social: P55,110,825,740.69
– Cross-sectoral: P3,069,023,613.41

NDRRMC: Almost P80M aid given to families affected by TD Agaton, LPA

Nearly P80 million in assistance has been given to families in Visayas and Mindanao who were affected earlier this month by a low-pressure area that intensified into Tropical Depression Agaton (Lingling). The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said some P79,803,510.81 was extended by government agencies and non-government organizations. In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said a breakdown of the amount included: P40,154,571.21 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development P35,486,090.55 from local government units P2,059,685 from non-government and government organizations The NDRRMC indicated the assistance was given to residents of Regions 5, 10, 11, 12 and Caraga. As of Tuesday morning, the death toll from Agaton remained at 64, with 85 injured and 10 still missing. The NDRRMC said 244,344 families or 148,621 people were affected in 1,002 villages in 118 towns in 16 provinces. Of these, 21,062 families or 102,201 people were displaced and are staying in 228 evacuation centers. Damage was estimated at P509,905,686.72, including P256,413,750 in infrastructure and P253,491,936.72 in agriculture. —KG, GMA News

(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday reported the number of deaths at 45 and 900,000 people affected in Mindanao by tropical depression “Agaton” which has now weakened into low pressure area (LPA). “Agaton”’s prolonged rains induced flash flood and landslides in Mindanao the past several days. NDRRMC partial official death toll was recorded with 18 in Region 11 or Davao Region, 19 in Caraga Region, seven in Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) and one in Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula). Most of the deaths are attributable to landslides and drowning, it said. The NDRRMC also said the number of injured persons rose to 68, while eight are still missing in Regions 9, 10, 11 and Caraga. Damage caused by the tropical depression was estimated to P369,142,178.22, including P128,513,750.00 in infrastructure and P240,628,428.22 in agriculture in Regions 10, 11 and Caraga. Power restored in parts of Leyte and Iloilo; Yolanda death toll at 5,235

In its 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC also said at least 23,501 people were injured while 1,613 are still missing. At least 2,157,529 families or 10,009,000 people were affected in 10,724 villages in 44 provinces. Of these, 74,842 families or 347,426 people are staying in 1,382 evacuation centers. The NDRRMC said at least 552,419 houses were destroyed while 560,312 were damaged. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said power was restored to Ormoc City in Leyte, one of the areas hit hard by Yolanda. ‘Yolanda’ death toll nears 4,000-mark

(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday morning the official death toll from supertyphoon “Yolanda” has reached 3,976, while the number of families affected also rose slightly as relief efforts from the government and other sectors continue for the victims. The death toll is broken down by regions as follows: CALABARZON, 2; MIMAROPA, 7; Bicol, 5; Western Visayas, 161; Central Visayas, 74; Eastern Visayas, 3,725; Zamboanga Peninsula, 1; and CARAGA, 1. NDRRMC said that 18,175 persons were injured, broken down as: 2 for CALABARZON, 21 for Bicol, 228, Western Visayas; 102, Central Visayas; 17,821, Eastern Visayas; and 1, Zamboanga Peninsula. Still missing are 1,598 individuals and these can be broken down into 19 for Western Visayas, 5 for Central Visayas, and 1,574 for Eastern Visayas. NDRRMC said a total of 2,212,955 families (10,306,318 persons) were affected in 44 provinces, 574 municipalities, and 57 cities. Of the total number of affected residents, 850,058 families or 4,008,894 persons were left homeless, NDRRMC said, prompting over 74,000 to stay inside evacuation centers. Number of damaged houses also rose to 571,806. The cost of damages breached the P10-billion mark at P10,384,690,061, with P1,295,508,600 for infrastructure facilities and P9,089,181,461 for agriculture. No tax on cash donations from abroad – BIR

(MNS photo) MANILA, Nov 18 (Mabuhay) – The Burea of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Monday clarified that no donor’s tax is imposed on cash donations from overseas. “Kung pera from abroad, wala naman binubuwisan ang gobyerno. Kasi kung donation, ang batas ng ibang bansa ang iiral, kung may donor’s tax sila or wala. As far as the Philippines is concerned, cash donations from abroad, walang donor’s tax yun. Kung meron babawasan, bank charges yun at di napupunta sa gobyerno,” BIR chief Kim Henares said. She added that there is no donor’s tax on local cash donations given to the government or accredited foundations. Donors can also deduct their donations from their income. However, cash donations made to organizations that are not accredited with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and NDRRMC may be taxed. “Kung nag-donate kayo sa isang hindi accredited (na organization), if beyon P100,000 ang donation niyo meron ho donor’s tax. Graduated yun. NDRRMC puts Yolanda death toll at 3,974

The death toll from Super Typhoon Yolanda has reached 3,974, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Sunday. A report by radio dzBB’s Rodil Vega said the new figure was announced late afternoon. President Benigno Aquino III on Sunday went to at least two areas in Eastern Visayas that suffered heavy damage from Yolanda. These included Guiuan in Eastern Samar and Tacloban City in Leyte. Meanwhile, Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office head Ramon Carandang noted a rationing of sorts of fuel in Tacloban City. “In Tacloban, bring your vehicle  to a gas station, you can buy a full tank, but if you are filling up a container, you can only buy P500,” he said. — BM, GMA News

NDRRMC on blue alert for Santi; death toll from ITCZ rain rises to 13

At 4:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm Santi was estimated at 490 km east of Baler, Aurora (15.6ºN, 126.6ºE) with maximum winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph. It is forecast to move west at 15 kph. PAGASA The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council went on blue alert Thursday evening for the possible effects of Tropical Storm Santi (Nari). In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said blue alert went into effect at noon, meaning at least half its personnel should be ready to respond to contingencies at any time. Also, it said it will continuously monitor and disseminate weather bulletins and weather forecasts to disaster management councils at the local level. For its part, the Coast Guard advised watercraft plying Catanduanes routes to suspend their operations, even as its units in Catanduanes and Albay are on heightened alert. The Department of Social Welfare and Development prepositioned P104.59 million in emergency relief resources. Death toll from ITCZ rises to 13 Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said the death toll from the heavy rain from the inter-tropical convergence zone rose to 13 Thursday. NDRRMC: 274 still missing from sunken ship in Cebu

GMA News – Cebu At least 274 passengers are still missing as of 7 a.m. Saturday from the collision of a passenger ship and a cargo vessel off Cebu Friday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 7 a.m. update, the NDRRMC indicated the missing are from the MV Saint Thomas Aquinas of 2GO Shipping, as the crew of the MV Suplicio Express 7 are accounted for. “As of 7 a.m. (Saturday), 24 persons are confirmed dead, 572 passengers were rescued, and 274 are missing,” it said. The NDRRMC said the 38 crewmembers of the MV Sulpicio Express 7 are “all safe and accounted for.” Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, with the Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Navy, and Department of Health taking part in the efforts. Volunteer groups are also helping in the search and rescue efforts. NDRRMC: Death toll from 'Labuyo' rises to 10, latest fatalities from Pangasinan

The death toll from Typhoon Labuyo (international name Utor) rose to at least 10 as of Friday night and the latest fatalities are from Pangasinan province. In its 5:00 p.m. update posted on its website Friday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified one of the two as Geronimo Lacson, 64. Lacson, a resident of Bugallon in Pangasinan, died from a heart attack after falling down while sweeping out floodwaters from his house, it said. At least seven were injured and four remained missing, the NDRRMC added. The NDRRMC said at least 86,295 families or 398,813 people in 678 villages in 87 towns and seven cities in 16 provinces were affected. However, it said all evacuation centers had been closed, with those still affected staying with friends and relatives. Lifelines At least 15 roads and one bridge remained impassable while power outages are still being experienced in parts of Zambales, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Baguio City. Some 2,565 houses were destroyed while 18,090 were damaged. Barangay Bulawon in Sta. Cruz, Zambales was still flooded as of Friday afternoon. Damage to property was estimated at P1,084,144,361.59, including: P358,547,941.93 in infrastructure, and P725,596,419.66 in agriculture.
